Milly Molly Mandy is tops in our house right now. For bedtime, my 3-year-old son would rather have two chapters of this book than any other. I'm amazed that he can listen to a book with only a few pictures per chapter, but the stories are wonderfully engaging, with a sweet tone and an innocence I love. You'll love this book!

I got this book when I was 6 and it has been a loved part of my collection ever since. I loved the map of the village in the front and the little descriptions that matched a location to a story, and the little qualifiers the author will put in front of some people's names like Little Friend Susan. The stories hark back to a simpler time, with things like berry picking or a new dress achieving the level of excitement that perhaps only the young (or young at heart) are capable of feeling. A wonderful book for children.

My daughter and I enjoyed reading Milly Molly Mandy so I ordered the hardcover of More Milly Molly Mandy. The book I received had a blue hardcover without a book jacket. My daughter and I are enjoying the book but the book is not as well made as the Milly Molly Mandy book with the yellow cover and book jacket. The More Milly Molly Mandy with the blue cover has coarser, thinner paper so the text and pictures from one side of the page can be partially seen through on the other side of the page. My daughter has given the Milly Molly Mandy book with the yellow cover as a gift. However the quality of the blue cover More Milly Molly Mandy does not seem nice enough to me to give as a gift.

Don't rule this out for your older children...I just bought it for my just-turned-8yo dd after starting a library copy of it and all of us (including 10yo brother) being enchanted (he actually suggested buying it...said it was a "classic"!)! It reminds you of simpler times... the wholesome joys of childhood. It probably is best for 8 and under but we found it absolutely charming

I read these books, a chapter a night, to our 5 year old daughter. They are classic, innocent, stories about small
every day events in the life of milly,molly,mandy. There are 2 pictures in each story and a cast of characters that never changes. My daugther loves them and they teach small but good lessons - how to be a helper, how to be responsible for your things. I love them. Just a sidenote....my husband finds them extremely tedious to read. You only need to read one chapter and you'll know which side of the fence you stand on.
