1.0 out of 5 stars What a RIP OFF!!
I have the first CD. In fact, I had to buy it again because I listened to the first one so many times, it accumulated too much wear and wore out. Although the OST to Braveheart is one of the finest film scores out there and THE finest James Horner score, it did noticeably omit some tracks. I must confess that I am not a dispassionate observer. Braveheart is my favorite movie, far and away the best ever. But a large part of that is the soundtrack. Rarely do you hear modern composition so stirring. Classic, but with a definite twist. I practically burned a groove in the original Braveheart soundtrack, and used to listen to it everyday. This album is close, but different. The original album is all "classical" music, composed and conducted by James Horner and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Everything on that album was from the movie. Not so here. There are some bagpipes in the movie and on the soundtrack. But mostly they are somewhat random compositions chosen for the "Scottishness" of it. EG, "Scotland the Brave" is not in the movie. I love the majestic sound of the bagpipes, but the bagpipes on this CD simply aren't the pieces from from the movie. The sound bites from the movie were a bit surprising the first time I listened to this album. The speeches and snippets are somewhat disruptive of the music, but then again, so are the bagpipes. I came to appreciate the dialogue over time, as they serve to heighten the drama. This album is a bit different from the original Braveheart soundtrack, but not inferior in any way. The symphonic pieces are magnificent, the bagpipes evocative, and the text stirring. A bit different from the original soundtrack, but still brilliant.

I have the first CD. In fact, I had to buy it again because I listened to the first one so many times, it accumulated too much wear and wore out. Although the OST to Braveheart is one of the finest film scores out there and THE finest James Horner score, it did noticeably omit some tracks. For example, the cue when William Wallace arrives at his childhood home after being away for a very long time AND when Robert the Bruce notices his father peering over him and another man early on in the film. So when I saw More Music From Braveheart, I was estactic. When I listened to the whole album, I was very disappointed.

When they don't include tracks complete with voice-overs (I can record parts of the film myself and duplicate this dubious and as-of-recently overused technique), they include tracks that were on the first album! They also add fluff by including bagpipe music (I love bagpipes, therefore I buy bagpipe ALBUMS) just to make the album at first glance worthy of purchase. All in all, it's the most shallow attempt at money milking I have ever seen, and I purchase Star Wars soundtracks if that gives you any reference.

Why they don't just release a complete score with the complete soundtrack absolutely escapes me. I would buy it in a second just as long as it contains every piece of music from the great film.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Music From Braveheart, November 28, 1999

For those who loved the movie, this album does an excellent job of combining the music with note worthy speeches from the breathtaking 1995 classic. This CD contains beautiful melodies composed by the London Symphony Orchestra which recreate the mood of the original film. As an extra, this CD is packed with the memorable Scottish bagpipes and never before released songs in memory of Scottish warrior poets. Even if you have the first soundtrack, this album is a must have for all true Braveheart fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music and More from Braveheart, November 13, 2002

I think this should be called 'Music and More from Braveheart' instead. That is my only criticism. Others have written of their complaints that the bagpipe music that has been added is not from the movie. Oh, well, I love bagpipes so that didn't bother me at all. They do add to the flavor of the thing.

There is dialogue from the movie, key snippets, that don't bother me, either. I loved the movie and can now enjoy the music, and soundbites, thoroughly while I surf the net and do other tasks on the computer.

If you like the original soundtrack CD, you should love this one. Sometimes, more is better and that is the case here!

I haven't finished listening to this yet and I'll probably shelve it. The original soundtrack is THE BOMB, one of the best film scores ever, but this doesn't live up to its name of "More music from Braveheart". It seems like an ill attempt at squeezing more money out of a good thing. There are only a few unreleased tunes on this album (I counted 5 out of the 25 listed). If you want to hear the speeches over again, I suggest watching the movie instead. This was a disappointment from an otherwise exc. original movie score. Save your money and continue to listen to the first one.

2.0 out of 5 stars More Music is not worth it---Original Soundtrack was great, July 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: More Music From Braveheart (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
I didn't like the "more music" CD at all. Some of the small clips of music have selected voice clips from the movie which I think takes away from the "music." The added three bagpipe scores at the end of the CD are absolute fluff. To DIRECTLY quote the back of the CD case: "The traditional Scottish bagpipe songs have been added as a bonus to keep the spirit of William Wallace and his warrior poets alive and to further enhance your listening pleasure." NOOOOO, the reason is the other clips are so short that they needed to add more scores to set a higher price. If you want to listen to Braveheart music get the orignal soundtrack (which is outstanding!), if you want the voice, get the video or soon to be released DVD...save your money and do not get "more music!"

4.0 out of 5 stars A good CD, but not as good as the first, October 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: More Music From Braveheart (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
I liked more music from Braveheart, But not as much than the first disc. This disc has some music from the first disc mixed in with some dialog from the movie, Plus new music not included on the original. My only problem with this disc is the bagpipe music they deciced to add. the packaging Says that as a bonus they added it to keep the spirit of William Wallace and his warrior poets alive, and to further enhance your listening pleasure. Which is okay i kind of liked it, but five tracks, 20 minutes of that music was a little to much, The last 3 tracks equals about 10-13 minutes of that music, Real loud is what comes to mind when i think of the bagpipe music, I don't even think the music was in the movie.

if you don't like it you can also skip those tracks, I like to listen from begining to end, Even if that meens listening to some music such as that.

But again it is a very good CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vol. II of One of The Greatest Film Scores Ever, May 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: More Music From Braveheart (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
Master composer James Horner has transcribed pure emotion into music for the movie "Braveheart". Every emotion in the film is succinctly expressed in these beautiful melodies. Horner's compositions are so precise that a person can visualize every scene, every expression vividly while listening to the soundtrack.

This volume is simply "more music". Both soundtrack volumes are exact reproductions of the film score, so anyone who loved the soundtrack in the movie will love both CD volumes. The only difference on this volume is the addition of brief conversation vignettes and several tracks of traditional bagpipe tunes. In my opinion, these additions neither add to nor take away from the beautiful film score. It still remains one of the most masterful, poignant compositions I have ever heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD that will never gather dust in your collection, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: More Music From Braveheart (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
While I admittingly loved the movie, the CD needs no such built in admiration to be considered a masterpiece. The sixth track, Primas Noctes, is the mosting haunting minute of music in my collection. After hundreds of plays, it still moves me to wonder.

The rest of the CD (minus the bagpipes, which, I admit, are an acquired taste) also lives up to high praise. Several tracks (7, 13 , 16, and 17) when played in succesion, serve as some of the most romatic background music one could hope for during an intimate evening (this from firsthand experience)

Buy, borrow, or beg, but get a copy of this CD. If you appreciate Scottish/Celtic inspired compostions, or loved the Titantic CD (the music has the same inspirations), you must check this one out.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 Tracks That Are Worth The Whole Album, March 21, 2006
By
This review is from: More Music From Braveheart (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
I only purchased this CD.. didn't get the original Braveheart soundtrack. The 2 tracks that I listen to over and over and over again would be Sons Of Scotland (a moving, 12-minute piece of music which makes you feel like you're both warrior and patriot - although it has a voice-over, the speech is a very stirring one and complements the track) and For The Love Of A Princess (only 4 minutes but very touching as well).

Although some tracks are little more than voice-overs from the movie, I would buy this album again just for the 2 tracks. It does leave me feeling a little "empty" though so I'll probably end up buying the first OST cd as well.
