I must confess that I am not a dispassionate observer. Braveheart is my favorite movie, far and away the best ever. But a large part of that is the soundtrack. Rarely do you hear modern composition so stirring. Classic, but with a definite twist. I practically burned a groove in the original Braveheart soundtrack, and used to listen to it everyday. This album is close, but different. The original album is all "classical" music, composed and conducted by James Horner and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Everything on that album was from the movie. Not so here. There are some bagpipes in the movie and on the soundtrack. But mostly they are somewhat random compositions chosen for the "Scottishness" of it. EG, "Scotland the Brave" is not in the movie. I love the majestic sound of the bagpipes, but the bagpipes on this CD simply aren't the pieces from from the movie. The sound bites from the movie were a bit surprising the first time I listened to this album. The speeches and snippets are somewhat disruptive of the music, but then again, so are the bagpipes. I came to appreciate the dialogue over time, as they serve to heighten the drama. This album is a bit different from the original Braveheart soundtrack, but not inferior in any way. The symphonic pieces are magnificent, the bagpipes evocative, and the text stirring. A bit different from the original soundtrack, but still brilliant.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a RIP OFF!!, March 24, 2004

I have the first CD. In fact, I had to buy it again because I listened to the first one so many times, it accumulated too much wear and wore out. Although the OST to Braveheart is one of the finest film scores out there and THE finest James Horner score, it did noticeably omit some tracks. For example, the cue when William Wallace arrives at his childhood home after being away for a very long time AND when Robert the Bruce notices his father peering over him and another man early on in the film. So when I saw More Music From Braveheart, I was estactic. When I listened to the whole album, I was very disappointed.

When they don't include tracks complete with voice-overs (I can record parts of the film myself and duplicate this dubious and as-of-recently overused technique), they include tracks that were on the first album! They also add fluff by including bagpipe music (I love bagpipes, therefore I buy bagpipe ALBUMS) just to make the album at first glance worthy of purchase. All in all, it's the most shallow attempt at money milking I have ever seen, and I purchase Star Wars soundtracks if that gives you any reference.

Why they don't just release a complete score with the complete soundtrack absolutely escapes me. I would buy it in a second just as long as it contains every piece of music from the great film.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Music From Braveheart, November 28, 1999
By A Customer
For those who loved the movie, this album does an excellent job of combining the music with note worthy speeches from the breathtaking 1995 classic. This CD contains beautiful melodies composed by the London Symphony Orchestra which recreate the mood of the original film. As an extra, this CD is packed with the memorable Scottish bagpipes and never before released songs in memory of Scottish warrior poets. Even if you have the first soundtrack, this album is a must have for all true Braveheart fans.
