What a fantastic book on the Python programming language and the Pygame library. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the example games in the book. Two of my favorites though, are the zombie mob game and the rougelike ASCCII dungeon crawler at the end of the book. The author of the book goes to great lengths to make the learning experience fun and it works like a charm. I really had a lot of fun working with the examples in the book.

As the author states in the beginning of the book, the Python syntax is a little odd and it does take a little getting used to. If you have experience with other object-oriented programming languages, such as C++, Java or C#, then you will be able to quickly pick up the quirks of the Python syntax. If you have no programming experience, it is recommend that you pick up Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner, 3rd Edition, by Michael Dawson first before reading this book. However I highly recommend this book. Really, I have not had this much fun with a programming book in quite some time. It is definitely worth your time!

Firstly , with respect to the author's diligent work, I find a caveat in that the title is misleading. This is an intermediate book & therefore shouldn't belong in the Absolute Beginner Series . It should have been titled "Python Games" or "Pygames" & indicate its purpose is to continue where the 1st book "Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner" left off. These books work well as a complimentary pair.
So, if you are totally new to programming, I do suggest you consider reading the previous book first which I also posted a review on or access other Python tutorials. The author even states in the Introduction that new comers should read the 1st book. More Python Programming gives you a treatment of exciting variety of games in about 300 pages & it does teach you a lot of Pythan syntax & structure. All I'm saying is that you may have difficulty with it. You can have the 1st book by you or go to the Python website should you
try reading this book & come across something you need more help in.
Having said that, I read both books & enjoyed them. But since I've studied programming I
took on the challenge to read the 2nd book first & then the 1st book right after that. What's my take? Well,
as this is my 1st Python book I managed to get through the Python & Pygame successfully. The 1st book delves more into the python language in which you practice with a lot of interactive programs. The 2nd book concentrates more on the gaming aspect of python which you interact with it differently.
The author gives you a nice approach to gaming. He writes clearly , explains concepts thoroughly & includes a bunch of games. You use the Pygame package to write these games. Throughout the book, you build on your gaming skills that you achieve in each chapter.
