More RAM will be needed This can have 16GB of RAM, but only comes with 2GB. That suggests a lot of 2GB microSD cards will be immediately tossed and replaced with 8 or 16GB microSD cards. Why not offer us a version with those higher capacities from the start and avoid the waste?

They are trying to keep the costs down by only having a single SKU for the product. Good to have an extra card on you when shooting, in case you fill one up, along with an additional battery...

memory card costs fluctuate on an open market, just like stocks do, nearly on a daily basis. So by adding a card to the box the price of the camera becomes inflated versus finding a more competitive price on the card on you own. hope this answers your question

Well, I'd personally rather pay for a cheap 2 gig card with the camera and then buy a better 16 without the markup that you'd get if it was packaged...
