5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Media on Indian Contributions, November 8, 2000
By
Eulala Pegram (Colorado Springs, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: More Than Bows and Arrows [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It is rare to find such a truthful, unvarnished presentation of the influences and contributions of American Indians that is intertaining and suitable for both adults and children (a little long for very young children.) Narrated by N. Scott Momaday, it covers advances by Indian people in the western hemisphere and the impact those influences and contributions had on the cultures of Europe and the whole Eastern hemisphere after contact, from food, language, maps, guided explorations, survival skills, sports, medicine and many, many other things. Well photographed, written and scripted. Highly recommended for schools, but every Indian family should have this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch with pride, August 30, 2004
This review is from: More Than Bows and Arrows [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I saw this movie years ago at a Title IV, Indian Education Culture Class. At the time I was tutoring a young boy that was American Indian. He'd been adopted by a wonderful family that was not Indian. They wanted to raise this boy to believe he was like all the other students at his school and didn't really want him to be involved in his culture. The other students at his school were mostly blue-eyed and blonde-haired, this boy was smart enough and old enough to know he was different.

Because his parents were very happy with the results of the tutoring they allowed their son to go with me to see the movie. It was very good and on the way back home that boy was not sitting on the seat of the car. Seat belt or no, he was so happy he was floating in the air about two feet above the seat. He said, "I wish the kids at my school could see that movie!" He had found new pride in his heritage and his ancestors culture.

This is an excellent movie.

This documentary represents the truth about our Native American heritage with clarity and purpose. It leaves you appreciative and thoughtful, without the bitterness that is deservedly applicable. Everyone should see this video.
