(5-CD LP-sized box-set with 36-page book) He was touted as the successor to Johnny Horton because he was from Shreveport, he had the same manager and record company, and sung much the same type of songs - but Claude was no Johnny Come Lately. He had been recording since 1947, and that's where we start. His rare sides for President, Pacemaker, Specialty and Dee-Jay are here. Claude then found his true voice on Columbia in the early '60s, and went on to cut the hits everyone knows, like Wolverton Mountain, The Comancheros, and Big River, Big Man. Also here, too, are every Columbia side from 1961 to 1972, and then most of his recordings for Cinnamon, True, and Gusto, from 1972 to 1979. Long overdue.
