This collection of sharp, witty, and observant books merits a space on every bookshelf. I am VERY disappointed to find that it
is out of print, as the copy I have is a beautiful black cushioned-leather covered, bible-page style with gold page edges.
Needless to say, I'm preserving it as much as I can! Douglas Adams is one of my favorite authors, with his ability to make
human existance seem so amusing, and yet so futile at the same time. He takes life, gives it a large drink, spins it around a few
times, and watches what happens. Adams is not above self-humiliation either:
"The idea for the title first cropped up when I was lying drunk in a field in Innsbruck, Austria. Well, not really drunk, just the
kind of drunk you get from having a couple of stiff Gossers after not having eaten for two days straight on account of being a
penniless hitchhiker. We are talking of a mild inability to stand up."
I THOROUGHLY recommend this book to ANYONE with a sense of humor, a mind for Sci-Fi, or an adequately functioning
brain. Actually, all carbon-based life-forms should be exposed to this book at some point or another...
Enjoy... I know I did!

It's Douglas Adams. What more truly needs to be said. I love having all of it (or most of it, at any rate) all in one place. A great collection that needs to be read at least every couple of years in order to maintain a proper world view.

For quite a few years, I've been a fan of the Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy books. After reading all the lesser quality books from the library, at an Antiquarian bookstore, I stumbled upon this book that has all of the novels into one collection. With the thickly clothed leather, and gorgeous gold lettering and page edges, this out of print Hitchhiker's Guide is a collectibe, I will treasure forever on a special place in my bookcase.

I recently gave away a ton of books, and accidentally included my paperback copies of the Hitchhiker novels, so I picked this up as a replacement. I haven't read any of them since middle school (20 years or so), so I figured I'd go back to check 'em out again. I got started on the first book, and was pleased with the smile Adams could still bring to my face. But I got distracted and this book has become unfinished eye candy on my library shelf. A fun read with some quite sharp wit woven throughout - if you haven't yet checked it out, you should.

I'd previously read all 5 volumes separately, but now the opportunity to replace my old worn-out copies with them all in one volume was something I could not resist. Good timely delivery too from the seller

A friend in Deltona, Florida introduced me to this book in July of 1992. I was intrigued with the first page that described the three ways to get off of the planet Earth. I was amused that he would suggest calling the Vatican. Maybe they know someone that can help. I don't have the ability to express myself in the way that he did. Witty and original are only two adjectives that I can think of to describe this book, which is British sciene fiction comedy. Once I began reading I read it straight through in less than a week. I am stupified at how often I can make a reference such as "that's an SEP" (someone else's problem) and someone within the sound of my voice will know just what I am talking about. A funny, funny book. I thouroughly enjoyed learning of the Guide by the More Than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide rather than all of the other seperate books first. I really enjoyed this version more than any of the others. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a well developed sense of humor.

One of the best books ever, put together in a durable and attractive binding. I love it. Ex girlfriend brake fluid on it and didn't notice for half an hour - wiped right off, didn't absorb into cover.
