Made in USA in 2002, Serial# COL-CD-9871, Playing Time 41:17This compilation CD features 10 previously released tracks, lifted from their first ("Boston") and second ("Don't Look Back") albums. It's a re-issue of the 1998 compilation on Sony (#A-33941) entitled "Rock And Roll Band". 5 tracks have been taken from their 1st album ("More Than A Feeling", "Rock & Roll Band", "Smokin'", "Hitch A Ride" and "Something About You"), while the remaining tracks ("The Journey", "It's Easy", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Party" and "Don't Be Afraid) are from their second effort. There's enough room on a CD to include the 2 albums IN FULL (they total about 72 minutes), so why stop at 41 minutes? And since the band switched to the MCA label afterwards, we're basically treated to very little material. It's not like the boys have released so much music that one needs to be selective! I suggest you buy the full albums; this "budget" collection left me with "more than a feeling" of a rip-off... caveat emptor!

Great songs, no point.,

Every song on this cd is excellent, but there is absolutely no point of releasing this. It's just some of the tracks from "Boston" and "Don't Look Back"! Bye those two albums instead of this...

Being a major fan of this band I've tried to collect all CDs put out by them and this one was no exception. It's a problem for those looking for specific songs, though, because it's a compilation of their first two albums and doesn't really contain the best of their music. The review entitled 'Recycled' really explains this CD well and my personal recommendation is to forgo buying this one and spend the money for 'Boston' and 'Don't Look Back'. However, since it IS Boston, it gets four out of five stars because their music rocks.

This album is just a collection of songs that are available on the first two albums. It would be a better deal. I would just buy the first two albums by Boston. If you already own the debut and "Don't Look Back" don't waste your money.

A Hard Follow Up,
By TheHighlander (Richfield, PA United States) - See all my reviews

Boston's debut album, Boston, was sensational. More Than A Feeling was their follow up and while a strong album in itself it let down some expectations, even if this was unfair. This album does sport some strong tracks with More Than A Feeling fitting right in with the previous album's tracks. But from there, it went a bit downhill. I still give this project 3 stars, which I rate as good because it is good and is measured against one of the best recordings in 1970's rock. If this would have been a debut album it would have rated far higher. For someone who liked the first album this will be enjoyable too, only not quite as consistent. But still worth the price. |
