Hilarious!, June 22, 2007
Cassidy Burke's thirty-second birthday isn't going how she had planned. Between keeping her house cleaning business running smoothly and raising a fifteen year old daughter, Cassie is one busy lady. She doesn't have time to deal with the psychotic little old lady at her door claiming Cassie is the next Demon Duster nor does she have time for her daughter, Thea, to meet the father she thought was dead. She is willing, however, to make time for sexy business owner, Devlin Cole, who wants both Cassie in his bed and her company to clean his exclusive club. But all of this was before Cassie discovered the truth about demons....
MORE THAN FIENDS is a hilarious tale involving a rather unlikely heroine. Cassie doesn't want to be a Demon Duster and her reactions to the proclamations of her elderly but spry guide, Jasmine, are hysterical. Cassie would much rather shop for a new Coach purse or eat some delicious chocolate than be trained to kill demons! After all, who in their right mind would actually believe that there is a vast population of demons in La Sombra, California?
MORE THAN FIENDS is not strictly a romance in the usual sense. A romantic triangle is set up between Cassie, Devlin, and Logan Miller, Thea's father, but readers looking for a traditional romance will not find it here. Cassie is torn between her attraction to the two men and her openness regarding both her emotional and physical reactions to Devlin and Logan is refreshing.
Maureen Childs joins the ranks of authors mixing paranormal romance and humor with MORE THAN FIENDS. Readers will relish this light-hearted tale as it is practically impossible not to laugh out loud at some of the situations in which Cassie finds herself. Maureen Child has a winner on her hands with this one!

Humorous Demon Duster takes center stage!, June 5, 2007
Cassidy Burke has not had an easy day. Sure, she is turning thirty-two, but that does not mean her whole world has to fall apart, right? Wrong. Not only does one of her employees quit, leaving only two people to clean houses in her small but growing personal business, but out of the blue, the father of her fifteen year old daughter calls up and announces he has moved back to La Sombra permanently. That is not good news as Logan Miller, Thea's father, does not even know she exists! But the kicker, the real kicker of it all is when a small old lady appears at her house claiming that Cassidy is the new Demon Duster and it is her destiny to kill demons.
To say it is a lot to take in is a major understatement. Cassidy does not believe she is a Demon Duster, but the sudden strength she has, combined with some major fighting moves, is starting to tell her otherwise. Then there is the spray that identifies demons. Cassidy's whole world has just been shaken up and she has to readjust. Additional pressures, such as Logan Miller, and her seriously sexy new client, Devlin Cole, are just going to have to take a number. There is trouble in La Sombra and like it or not, Cassidy is going to have to step up to the plate...whether she believes in demons or not.
Demons, a wise-cracking teen, two hot men, and a protagonist who snaps and sizzles with humor and personality are only a few reasons to put MORE THAN FIENDS on your must-buy book list. With all these problems coming out of the woodwork, how can any sane woman be expected to deal? Fortunately, Cassidy has a good head on her shoulders and sure, she does not believe in demons, but as the evidence grows, she is not stupid enough to keep her head in the clouds. She is a strong woman even before she becomes the Demon Duster. She has raised her child by herself, she runs her own business, and she has made a life in La Sombra. Cassidy's take on the universe, on her love life, and on demons is fresh, spunky, and plenty sarcastic. Laughs come easily from these pages. Maureen Child pulled me in with her first-person story easily and wonderfully. I did not want to leave Cassidy, Thea, or the other characters of La Sombra. I look forward to where the love triangle goes, and the many demons Cassidy may encounter. All in all, MORE THAN FIENDS is a sizzling story with wit, romance, and characters who immediately engage readers in their lives. Fun and fresh reading!
