This book is well written and covers the political, social and cultural significance of football on Robben Island. Showing how the organisation that these men displayed fought against the racism which had placed them there and prepared them for life after release, and a post apartheid South Africa. Great stuff.

More Than Just A Game is a great book. The author does a remarkable job of describing the creation of the Robben Island Makana Football League. This book provides great insight into the harsh treatment the prisoners of Robben Island were subjected too and how football gave them hope. A must read for those who are interested in the history of South Africa and for those who are interesting in learning more about those who today hold power in SA.
