4.0 out of 5 stars Best Jadis effort to date, June 25, 2005

This review is from: More Than Meets the Eye (Spec) (Audio CD)
This is, in my opinion, the best Jadis album. All I can say is that the songs are very well structured; the melodic guitar solos are my favorites, as are the pads sounds. Vocals are very melodic-oriented as in the other albums, and maybe tends to be somewhat like AOR commercial rock as usual, something that can turn people out of Jadis in first listening.
But I would at least listen to this album , there are tons of melodies, the songs are much better than in the other albums, so much that none of the songs makes me skip it. It took me some listening to get used to it, since I'm more used to IQ vocals, which are also more like Jon Anderson. Jadis vocalist reminds me more to Steve Vai's Firegarden album, which is a masterpiece of progressive rock (yeah, I said progressive, get that one too!).
My personal favorites are the 4 first tracks, then the title track which is really good with the flute being a main instrument, a really beautiful piece of music. The last 2 tracks aren't bad, they fit perfectly in the album. Overall conclusion: if you liked Jadis before with the other albums, then get this one, it won't disappoint you. If you liked this album, another addition would be "Dark Matter" by IQ and maybe previous Jadis works. I personally liked the first Jadis album too. Much longer and half instrumental is Steve Vai - Firegarden, remember that one!

2.0 out of 5 stars hope it gets better, September 13, 2007
This review is from: More Than Meets the Eye (Spec) (Audio CD)
This cd is my first from this band. From the soundbites they sounded interesting but this is my biggest disappointment from newer prog bands. They fit in better with Spandau Ballet than any where else. The vocals are too sappy and melodramatic and the guitar work is just ok until he starts trying to go beyond his talent level. The rest of the band is adequate but seem to be limited to their frontman.
