5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent and Long Overdue Guide for Moms
MORE THAN A MOM is more than a book: it's a long overdue acknowledgement of what moms give to their children: in this case, children with special needs. Baskin and Fawcett provide mothers with a smorgasbord of practical and achievable strategies for working towards a full and balanced life. 3.0 out of 5 stars Okay book, but not what I was looking for
Overall, I think the book had good information about things you need to know when raising a special needs child. I was disappiointed however that it did not have more real life stories about moms of special needs children. It had quotes but did not have in-depth stories. I enjoy reading more about how other moms are balancing raising a special needs child and working...

MORE THAN A MOM is more than a book: it's a long overdue acknowledgement of what moms give to their children: in this case, children with special needs. Baskin and Fawcett provide mothers with a smorgasbord of practical and achievable strategies for working towards a full and balanced life. By the time you finish reading this book, you'll be convinced that you CAN take care of yourself while nurturing and advocating for your child. The authors may not be arguing that you can 'have it all' (what mom can?), but they are making the case that you can -- and should -- enjoy plenty of it.

Overall, I think the book had good information about things you need to know when raising a special needs child. I was disappiointed however that it did not have more real life stories about moms of special needs children. It had quotes but did not have in-depth stories. I enjoy reading more about how other moms are balancing raising a special needs child and working and raising other children etc. The information was okay, however most of it I already knew about. I don't know what I was expecting or wanting. I think I was wanting more stories about moms balancing life rather than just "how to"

information. Again, it was okay, but not what I was hoping it would be.

It's so refreshing to read a book that focuses on positive, real life needs of exceptional children. I found every chapter to have useful, realistic information for parents and professionals alike. I would highly recommend this book not only for parents who have children with abilities, but for educators in general. Well done!

Although I may have known in heart some of things that are in the book it helps to see them in print.

Perhaps what I believe we need to do is to do books like this for those families who live below the median income in countries across the world. I live in Jamaica and fortunately I can pay to dream some of the new dreams, not all.

The challenges that women with children with disablities who live below the median income are awesome. For those living in developing countries like Jamaica they are moreso.

While the focus should be on dreaming new dreams. They need also be about dreaming but not doing. There should be something here about advocacy and why for those new dreams to happen we must advocate that could have been an emphasis.

This book makes the assumption that you can afford to sleep and to dream, some of our mothers are in a nightmare and they need more on how to move to the zone of celebration than this book gives.
