5.0 out of 5 stars That DipSet C.R.A.C.K., July 12, 2005
By
R L. (Miami, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Man this CD is one of the best (Compilations) out there because you get to experience the Dipset life. The only one song that I don't like on the CD would be "What Is This" by Jim Jones because I belive that that song was just added into the mix just for Capo to have a song on there. The songs that stood out to me the most probably would be 1) More Than Music, 2) Dipset Symphony, 3) Somebody Gotta Die Tonight, 4) No Days Off, 5) 40th Boys , and 6) The Pit. I just wish that S.A.S. (Eurogang), Cam'Ron, Un Kasa, and Taj Mahal had some songs on the CD. But nonetheless, the CD is a must have for all Dipset fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid effort from the Dipset family, September 4, 2005
This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This compilation tape surprisingly had very little marketing, which is a shame considering it is one of their better compilation albums. For those curious, More Than Music Vol. 1 is more of a showcase of the lesser-known Dipset personalities. Cam'ron is only on a handful of songs, as is Jim Jones (which is a good thing, I guess). Juelz is on quite a bit of songs, including 2 tracks, most of which are decent. Other than that, the tape is a sample of what each Dipset member can bring to the table.

Many go so far as to impress, although a few songs were very disappointing. 40 Cal absolutely shines on this tape; his outings on Best Out, 40th Boys, and The Pit solidifying him as a force to be reckoned with. His solo, Open Your Eyez, is also one of the highlights of the compilation. JR Writer brings his typical style to the record, hitting listeners with intricate punchlines and rhyme scheme. Hell Rell

The low points of the album, in my opinion, are the Jha Jha/Un Kasa collaboration and the Juelz/Razah track. Jha Jha and Un Kasa are arguably the worst members, and to give them their own song was a deplorable idea.

The rest of the album is a very good effort, and a great chance to listen to what ALL of Dipest has to offer, not just a few select artists. More Than Music Vol. 1 offers listeners a chance to explore evert aspect of Dipset, and many of the songs do not disappoint.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get down with the dip dip dip! (3.5), July 30, 2005
This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
What can I say about Dipset....well they definitely make their own kinda music...They usually succeed in their music with two types of songs: the very dramatic souding songs and the soul-sample joints....With that said....
1. More than Music - Ok rhymes by rell and writer...ok beat...ok rating 3/5
2. Dipset Symphony - I like this one....it has that old school sample on the beat that makes you wanna nod your head...the rhymes are sufficient....4/5
3. Back in The Building - The beat is ok on this one...but Rell....wow..pretty good punchlines or at least this one....."my dope from Africa, straight from the motherland, you're gf can't suck a good d**k but your mother can" Me and all my homeboys were like damn....when we heard that....4/5
4. Santana's Town Part 2 - Has that nice bounce to it, with the guitar in the backrouond....Santana's on point...The first was too cold but the second one's nice too....4.5/5
5. What is this - jim jones coulda came harder...ok though....3/5
6. Open Your eyez - An interesting joint by 40 cal...i like it pretty good 4/5
7. Somebody gotta die Tonight - One of the dramatic joints i mentioned ealier...this one grew on me...cam was tight on here and freekey zeek is funny at the end of the track 4/5
8. U Make me Say - I knew this was Heatmakerz b4 i even checked...this is how ALL their beats sound...haha...but this one IS tight though...i really like it...JR Writer is defintely one of the tighter people on Dipset....4.5/5
9. Sucker For Love interlude - Actually pretty funny...
10.So What's it Gonna Be? - I actually downloaded this b4 i saw the cd, cuz i saw it was juelz and fab...and first i hated it...but its hella catchy...i liked fabs verse too....3.5/5
11. The Best Out - That dramatic, bounce, nod ya head to music...JR went hard, everyone else pretty good too 4/5
12.Bloodshed - This beat and the flow of bloodshed kinda reminds me somethin of AZ...i like it but it's too short...i know its a freestyle, but cam shoulda spit around it or somethin....4/5
13. No Days Off- "It's so soulful" Who said that? I dunno, but that's what i think of when i listen to this...i'd call it the "just tryin to make it" joint 4.5/5
14. 40th Boys - Pretty tight, not much to say about it...3.5
15.The Pit - I really like this one...the rhymes fit nicely over a tight track by "knoxbonikz" whoever the hell that is..4.5/5
16. Get Down - Probly my favorite song on here....I like the whole way this one's put togehter....Cam and Juelz(fire) + real nice pro v beat (dynamite) = BOOM! 6/5
17.So Gangsta - Another laidback soulful joint....4.5/5
18.What Kind of life is this - simply ok 3/5
19.If only you belive - this is a good song, with good lyrics/message by jr writer...only reason i don't listen to it too much is b/c of the kids singin in the background...its not bad...but lets just say i wont listen to that one in my car...only home....4/5
Overall: Dipset isn't perfect...they have somethings they can work on...mainly lyrics...but they are so damn creatve and catchy that i can't help bbut cop...and maybe u should do the same....3.5, i always round up so 4 on this scale

4.0 out of 5 stars Human Crack Rock. Nuff Said., July 23, 2005
This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
More Than Music Vol. 1, to me, is the best Dipset mixtape I've heard so far. I hear oh boy sayin you either love them or hate them. He's absolutely right. You either love dipset or hate dipset. I jus happen to fall in that category of the ones that got mad love 4 em. Production is golden on this album, as I would expect nothin less 4rm dipset (Heatmakerz). As far as lyricism... jus look at my title... Hell Rell is probably the coldest one in Dipset rigt now. JR Writer is right behind him. If either them come out w/ a solo project, ima b tha first 2 get it. Overall, If U got love 4 deez niggas GET THIS HUMAN CRACK ROCK!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dipset: All Day, Everyday., July 21, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This CD is a nice and solid mixtape from the Byrd Gang. It includes 19 tracks, featuring mostly the new crew members: JR Writer, Hell Rell, .40 Cal.

1- More Than Music ft. Hell Rell and JR Writer
5/5
This track comes out hard for the beginning of the CD. Hell Rell dropped a nice verse, JR just rips it.

2- Dipset Symphony ft. Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, 40 Cal, and Un Kasa
3.5/5
It was ok, but a little too short for me.

3-Back in the Buliding ft. Hell Rell
4/5
Hell Rell dropped good verses, with a catchy hook.

4-Santana's Town pt.II ft. Juelz Santana
5/5
This one is way better than the previous Santana's Town. Nice beat and decent lyrics.

5-What Is This ft. Jim Jones
2.5/5
Eh, I didn't like it. The beat is OK, but the hook and verses aren't that good. I'll pass this one and wait for his new CD. =P

6-Open Your Eyes ft. .40 Cal
4/5
I liked this solo by .40. A lot of detail in this song.

7- Somebody Gotta Die Tonight ft. Cam'Ron and Freeky Zeeky
4.5/5
Cam'Ron comes hard on this track, and the outro at the end by Freeky is very hard. Some choice phrases:

"My fist/
in they face/"

"My knee/
in the ribs"

"My..my finger/
In they EYE!/"

8-You Make Me Say ft. JR Writer
3.5/5
It was cool. Nothing special, though.

9- Sucker For Lover Interlude ft. DukeDaGod and Ash
(No Comment)

10- So What's It Gonna Be ft. Juelz Santana and Faboulous
3/5
OK, I didn't like it a lot though. The beat is ok.

11-The Best Out ft. Hell Rell, JR Writer, .40 Cal, and Bezel
5/5
The track says it all. "The Best Out."

12-Bloodshed (R.I.P) freestyle ft. Bloodshed
4/5
I like his flow and choice of rhymes. RIP Bloodshed.

13-No Days Off ft. Juelz Santana
5/5
He talks about life. Very good track.

14-40 Boys ft. .40 Cal and A-Mafia
2/5
It wasn't good to me.

15-The Pit ft. Hell Rell, JR Writer, and .40 Cal
4.5/5
Hell Rell and JR come and drop some good stuff, and .40 Cal makes a good comeback from his last track.

16- Get Down ft. Juelz Santana and Cam'Ron
5/5
The single off this album. I liked the beat, flow, and the lyrics.

"Now get down, with the Dip Dip Dip."

17-So Gangsta ft. Jha Jha and Un Kasa
3/5
Jha Jha doesn't do that good, but Un Kasa saves it.

18-What Kind Of Life Is This? ft. Juelz Santana and Razah
4/5
A good R&B song, I must say.

19-Miracle ft. JR Writer
4/5
The closing track. A laidback song to end the CD.

_
Be sure to pick up Jim Jones-Harlem: Diary of a Summer in August and Juelz Santana-What The Game's Been Missing in September.

Dipset: All Day, Everyday.

3.0 out of 5 stars a short review on "more than music", July 20, 2005

This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
ever since i first heard the diplomats back in what...'01?, i was hooked by their rather ridiculous rhymes and incredibly similar beats. and til this day, i stand true to my belief that hip-hop heads whether love or hate these crazy bunch of mc's. there is no grey area. those of you who say "they're ok" are just lying to yourselves. you love or hate em...nothing more, nothing less.
so when you pass by their latest release, "more than music" at your local cd store (or you happen to look them up here on amazon), ask yourself "do i love or hate the diplomats?" there is nothing new here that previous mixtapes and the volumes of diplomatic immunity didn't have to offer. head-honcho (did i spell that right?) Cam'ron and crack-man Juelz still offer their comical and interesting, but far from great, rhymes while heatmakerz still dish out those beats with knock. you know how they sound...soul-sampled with chimpmunk like voices repeating a certain phrase over and over. if anything, its JR and Hell Rell that steal the show...those guys rap pretty darn good.
its a thin line between love and hate, my friends, and for this one you have to truly look into yourself to know whether or not this will make a great addition to your collection. are you dipset?? if so, go get it. if not, continue looking down the cd aisle (or browsing through the website).

4.0 out of 5 stars IT'S MORE THAN MUSIC KIDZ!!!!!!!!!, July 17, 2005
By
BANG-OUT!!!! (Riverside, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: More Than Music, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
The DipSet are back once again with "More Than Music" presented by Duke Da God. More Than Music in my opinion is a real tight album and is more better than Diplomatic Immunity 2. Holdin down the album mainly are the newest DIPS Hell Rell, 40 Cal, JR Writer, and Mr. Human Cracc in tha Flesh Juelz Santana. Every song on tha album is actually Cracc, but there are some songs I barely like like "So Gangsta" by JHA JHA(first lady of the DIPS, Tha only person I dont like in the DipSet) and Un Kasa, and it takes awhile to actually like "So Whats It Gonna Be" by Juelz Santana feat. Fabolous but after hearing it bout 10 times its actually a funny ass song. But this is the 2nd best out of the 3 DipSet albums (Diplomatic Immunity was one of my fav. albums). The only things I didnt like about the CD is the Killa Cam and Capo was on about 2 songs which is kinda wack cuz there the leaders plus S.A.S. werent on the Album neither. But the other DIPS hold down tha movement strong on the album so dont even worry bout that. I suggest you guys go spend your lil 14 bucks on this cuz it is on e hell of a CD.
