Editorial Reviews

Alex Beyrodt´s VOODOO CIRCLE is not only about re-awaking the true spirit of the old masters. Bands like Rainbow, Whitesnake and Deep Purple for sure made history with their classic albums, but it needs new messengers to carry the torch and amaze a new generation of hard rock fans. Messengers like Beyrodt and his band, who have it all: experience, personality, and amazing musical skills, undoubtedly on world-class level. This is the special 2 LP gatefold edition with two bonus tracks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic old school rock! March 28, 2013
By Michael
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Voodoo Circle return with their third album to deliver a high quality set of songs steeped in classic rock influences and a feeling of the bombastic rocking times of the eighties. Lead by the powerful vocals of David Readman from Pink Cream 69 and the awesome guitar playing of Alex Beyrodt from Primal Fear, this album really sounds like a modern version of Whitesnake with some additional influences from bands such as Deep Purple and Rainbow. The vocals will definitely remind you of David Coverdale and the guitar playing also has that certain John Sykes vibe to it at times. Production was handled by Dennis Ward who knows his way around this style of music having done loads of quality melodic rock albums over the past few years. Highlights include the cracking opening track "Graveyard City", the awesome power ballad "Cry For Love", the memorable melodies of "The Ghost In Your Heart", the massive rocker "Bane Of My Existence" which has a strong PC69 influence, and the epic sound of "Victim Of Love". More Than One Way Home might not be as memorable as the classic Whitesnake album 1987 but it is definitely a solid album that delivers a high quality hit of classic rock that will satisfy fans of this style of music. Voodoo Circle are clearly a band having fun showing off the musical influences of their youth and should be commended for doing it well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underated, Outstanding band April 8, 2013
Format:Audio CD
The cover strikes one as a scene from some vampire apocalyptic movie but then pull out the CD and BAM!! Rock! When I first heard of Voodoo Circle I really thought it would be some cult Black Sabbath wannabe band "WRONG"

If you love David Coverdale Whitesnake or Jorne Bring Heavy Rock to the Land then this band are on Par. The tunes, lyrics, hooks and bridges just get you rocking and you have to turn this up high!!

I must add we miss solid new rock bands and here I highly recommend two that have to be visited - The Answer Rise and Voodoo Circle Broken Heart Syndrome.

Oh while you are searching for Rock you have to listen to the new Pretty maids Album Motherland

5.0 out of 5 stars Full Throttle Rock Review July 24, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Voodoo Circle - More Than One Way Home
Written by The Rock Man

When I first was told about Voodoo Circle, my first reaction was Voodoo who? So off I went to research them to find out what the deal was. Voodoo Circle is the brainchild of Alex Beyrodt, guitarist with Silent Force, Primal Fear and Sinner. In 2008 he put together a collection of musicians which included David Readman (Pink Cream 69) on vocals, Mat Sinner (Primal Fear) on bass, Jimmy Kresic on keyboards, Mel Gaynor on drums and himself on guitar. The purpose of this band was for Beyrodt to explore his early influences such as Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen and others. So in 2008 the band released their first album titled Alex Beyrodt's Voodoo Circle.

In 2009 Mel Gaynor left the band and was replaced by Markus Kullman on drums, the band would then release their next album Broken Heart Syndrome in 2011. 2013 sees the band return with a new collection of tunes on More Than One Way Home. So not really knowing who I was about to listen to or what I was about to listen to, I popped this CD on, pressed play and waited for the first track to start and then .... Bang!

This amazing guitar intro, ripped right out of the 1980s came out off my speakers and smacked me across the head, but then came the one/two punch of David Readman's vocals which I swear must have been channelling David Coverdale and this was on the first track Graveyard City. As I was about to discover, this track along with many others would dip their hat in salute to Whitesnake circa 1987. The next track is Tears In The Rain, which has a Crying In The Rain feel to it, followed by the heart pumping Heart Of Babylon, check out the vocal high notes on this song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Been Missing This Sound June 5, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Had to jump online and verify that John Sykes wasn't part of this group! lol Love the "old" Whitesnake sound. Pays great tribute to John's sound and style (even if not intentionally...not sure). It's a sound I've missed for years. Great job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great release! May 25, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
More Whitesnake influence here than Deep Purple, when compared to the first two excellent releases. I love this band for their original sound over the obvious influences. Vocals, guitars and production are top notch as expected. Pink Cream 69 fans should like this because of David Readman's unmatchable vocal abilities. Guitarists, add this one to your melodic metal collection A.S.A.P.!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like 1987 all over again! February 25, 2014
Format:MP3 Music
German melodic hard rock/metal band Voodoo Circle returned in 2013 with their third album, titled More Than One Way Home. Voodoo Circle is, of course, the side project of former Silent Force (and current Primal Fear) guitarist Alex Beyrodt, who is joined by vocalist David Readman (Pink Cream 69), bassist Mat Sinner (Primal Fear, Sinner), drummer Markus Kullmann (Dezperadoz) and keyboardist Jimmy Kresic (Kiske/Somerville).

If you picked up one (or both) of the two previous Voodoo Circle albums, you probably have a good idea what to expect from More Than One Way Home. Well, you at least may think you do. Sure, the trademarks of Voodoo Circle’s sound are still in place here. This is a blues-influenced, very melodic album that straddles the line between hard rock and heavy metal, and it features Alex Beyrodt’s dazzling guitar work and David Readman’s electrifying vocals. The twist with this album is that More Than One Way Home is essentially a Whitesnake album. Not just that it sounds a lot like Whitesnake. This album sounds so much like a lost Whitesnake album it’s downright eery.

To put it in the right context, More Than One Way Home could be a long lost Whitesnake album recorded between 1987 and Slip of the Tongue. It’s got that total blues rock base, but it’s ultra melodic and polished, and even the song titles and lyrics are pure Whitesnake worship. “Tears in the Rain” is a dead ringer for “Cryin’ in the Rain,” and “Heart of Babylon,” “The Saint and the Sinner” and “Victim of Love” are all shout-outs to classic ‘Snake tunes. Beyrodt performs brilliantly here, serving up irresistible melodies and wicked, soulful solos, and his bandmates match him with flawless rhythms and dynamic keyboards (that often replicate the old Hammond sound).
