From the Back Cover

Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. (Romans 12:1, MSG)

Are you experiencing more of the joy and abundance Jesus promised, or less? Many people suffer a stale, lackluster relationship with God yet think of themselves as doing well spiritually. Tragically, they don’t know what they’re missing.

Author Doug Sherman invites you to make life with God an adventure. In More Than Ordinary, you’ll learn how to:

• Transform your entire approach to daily life
• Enter into deeper conversation with God
• See Him as walking alongside you in each circumstance and problem you face
• Enjoy God’s presence in your everyday responsibilities and activities
• Change your relationship with Him from dull to delightful

God promises that life with God can be More Than Ordinary!

5.0 out of 5 stars Motivating You to Become God Enthralled! June 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
What a fantastic book! The whole time I was reading it - I was thinking to myself "Why didn't I write this book?" As a pastor and life coach everything the author talks about in this book is exactly in a nutshell what I want followers of Jesus to know. I will definitely be buying this book and giving it away, and recommending it to others. As a matter of fact, I am preaching through the book of Colossians right now on Sunday's but was so impacted by this book - that with Father's Day coming up this Sunday - I'm going to use some of the Scripture passages in this book and the principles and suggestions that the author brings out to share with my flock - to remind them of what an Awesome Heavenly Father we have.

This book essentially has it all - excellent theology, wonderful Bible passages, great stories, personal and authentic, excellent applications, and flows very well. I read it in about three hours - and I'm not a fast reader, but I simply couldn't put the book down!

The essence of this book is that God created us to know Him intimately and that He is our ultimate satisfaction in life. Doug does a fantastic job of weaving the Biblical story of the creation, fall, redemption, and restoration throughout the book. He weaves the Biblical story with his story and our story - making practical connections throughout the book. If you are having a dry spell in your walk with God, or He seems distant to you - or even if you think you are very close to Him - this book will motivate you and give you great practical ways to enjoy Him even more.

I especially recommend it for those who didn't have a good relationship (or currently) with their earthly father - as the author relays his own testimony in regard to this. Also, as a father myself, it really motivated me to become a better father and reflect God practically to my children and grandchildren. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read June 20, 2011

I saw this book listed and downloaded it at just the very moment I needed to be reminded (and instructed more) about what it means to love God so much that I foster a moment by moment, joyful relationship with Him.

This book is a wonderful, practical, inspirational story of God's love. It reminds us that serving God and following him is not meant to be drudgery, but to be joyful and fulfilling. I was touched by the author's transparency. His admitting that he struggles himself and has ups and downs in his relationship with God reminded me that we don't have to live in shame or guilt--that repentance puts us right back on track with God.

I found this book to be biblically based and inspirational. I not only recommend it but am buying copies to give to my friends and the families in the church that we pastor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turning faith into an exciting adventure June 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Too many people miss seeing God as friendly, active, relevant, and interested in their daily circumstances, according to Doug Sherman in this book. They are unable to imagine God turning an ordinary day into something amazing, or to see how God wants them to be filled with joy, pleasure, and excitement, and to live lives that are anything but commonplace.

Doug starts by describing how his life as a rebellious insecure fourteen-year-old was interrupted when Jesus showed up one day and, although a number of years passed before he had contact with other Christians or started attending a church, Doug quickly found the joy of living each day with Jesus, talking with him and learning from him. God wants us to engage him every day to enjoy a growing companionship and a great adventure, and to be changed from the inside out by his character.

However, most people experience dry periods in their relationship with God, and Doug describes a day when he recognised that the close friendship and excitement of enjoying life with Jesus had faded and he now seemed more like a distant king. This recognition led to a fresh start and a period of renewed growth.

For many Christians faith in Jesus is an intellectual decision to accept certain truth propositions, rather than something which results in a radical change in the way they experience life. This book aims to be an antidote to that kind of Christianity, following in the tradition of Brother Lawrence's book The Practice of The Presence of God. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to be inspired to enjoy their walk with God more.
