This review is from: More Than Words: The Best of Kevin Kern (Audio CD)
"More Than Words" is an enchanting "best of" collection from Kevin Kern's five previous albums and includes two new pieces. My only argument with the selection of the fourteen tracks is the inclusion of both of the cover tunes Kern had on his "In My Life" album over any of his original work from that album. Both "In My Life" and "We All Fall in Love Sometimes" are great arrangements, but there was some beautiful original work on that album, too, and none of those pieces were included. Other than that, most of these pieces HAD to be on a "best of" collection - "After the Rain," "Sundial Dreams," and "Through the Arbor" from "In the Enchanted Garden" are pretty-much Kern's signature pieces, as is "Twilight's Embrace" from "Summer Daydreams.". "Above the Clouds" and "Blossom on the Wind" from last year's "Embracing the Wind" open and close the collection with warmth and serenity. "From This Day Forward" from the same album was written for Kern's wedding and is so warm and loving that my CD player almost smiles whenever I play it! "Out of the Darkness Into the Light" was composed for the "Freedom to Love" compilation, and appeared there as a piano solo. Kern orchestrated the piece, and included it on this CD - a beautiful tribute to those lost in the attacks of 9/11. The other new piece is "Children At Play," is a wistful piano and guitar duet that is full of Kern's trademark gentleness and warmth. Even if you have all of Kern's albums, the grouping of the pieces on this CD is wonderful, making the pieces fresh and new again. If you are new to Kevin Kern's work, this is an outstanding introduction! My only words of warning are to not use this CD in a wake-up CD player. I slept through 45 minutes of it one morning, and although I had some lovely little dreams in the process, woke up late and in a panic when I realized what time it was! Yep, the music is that peaceful! Very highly recommended for all other purposes!

This album is a compilatiion of some of the best pieces from Kevin Kern's previous albums, with the addition of two outstanding new pieces written especialy for this album. This is an excellent album; however, if you are a Kevin Kern fan, as I am, and have all his albums you might not wish to own this. If you are new to him, I would strongly advise getting this album, as it will introduce you to this wonderful artist. After listening to this you will probably buy all of his fantastic albums.

Last week, I went to my local music store to buy this cd. Unfortuately, I didn't buy it then, because I saw 2 other artists that I was familiar with and bought them instead. After hearing several other songs from this cd on the radio this week, I went back and got it. I am so glad that I did. Kevin has composed and put together some very beautiful music on this CD. If I had to compare this cd to an artist, I would compare it to Yanni's "In My Time" CD, because of the romantic piano playing surrounded by some soft dreamy like keyboards in the background that leave you soul searching and ultimately leaves you in a very relaxed state of mind and forgetting about the stresses of the day that you may have encountered. I love every song on this cd. Some of my personal favorites are "Above The Clouds", Through The Arbor", "Sundial Dreams", "From This Day Forward", "After The Rain" and "Blossom on the Wind". But really they are all very good.If you are a writer like I am and you are looking for something to inspire you to write that romantic poem or two, then this is the CD that will do it for you.

More Than Anything,

Kevin Kern's Best Of... is one of the most beautiful CDs I have in my collection. A wonderful 14-track compilation of some of the enchanting, soothing piano solos he has become famous for, this CD is soothing, melodious and enchanting, exactly what anyone needs after a hard day in school or at work.
Kern's music does not deviate from his New Age roots - there is still the fair amount of humming and the genteel of the tunes are much different from what is on other piano CDs out there. It is wonderfully crafted, from a true master, and it brings a smile to anyone's face. This music is a reprieve from busy business worlds and brings to life a whole other world of magic and enchanting song.

A Quiet Relaxing Collection,

This 2002 collection highlights the earliest 5 albums of Kevin Kern : (1996) In the Enchanted Garden - tracks 2, 5, 11 (1997) Beyond the Sundial - 7, 10 (1998) Summer Daydreams - 8, 13 (1999) In My Life - 4, 9 (2001) Embracing the Wind - 1, 6, 14 The CORRECT title of track 14 is ' A gentle whisper ', the last piece in the 2001 album, not ' Blossom on the wind 'as printed on the collection album, which is the first piece in the 2001 album. Tracks 3 and 12 are two lax and loose tunes composed expressly for certain themes. A thoughtful selection and arrangement, with a colorful piano styles and mild complementary timbres of soft percussions, strings, violin, cello, guitar, oboe, and sublime sounds - all having a moderate tempo and tone throughout, making it a very soft and quiet collection well-suited for relaxation, meditation, and bedtime alike. However, many of Kevin's best melodies are still to be found in the original albums.

Kevin Kern is a brilliant composer, and this shows in his latest CD "MORE THAN WORDS".
It's easy listening, great music, and his CD's should be on everyone's shopping lists. He is truly brilliant pianist, and lets hope that at some stage he might team with Richard Clayderman or James Last or even both for a truly memorable performance.More Than Words: The Best of Kevin Kern

Kevin Kern's "More Than Words" album is dreamy bliss. It is very calming music, every note is played perfectly, and each piece is worth savoring. If you are looking for relaxing contemporary piano music, you have found a worthy title. Give "More Than Words" a chance. You'll be glad you did.

If I'd Only Known!,

When I ordered Kevin Kern's latest album, I saw only "More than Words" and not "The Best Of" . Therefore I was extremely disappointed to find that ten of the 14 selections are ones that I have been listening to and enjoying over and over as they are excellent for relaxation and stress reduction. I'd previously bought all his albums except "Beyond the Sundial". I was anticipating more selections similar to those he included in "Embracing the Wind", my favorite. I consider this album a waste of money for so much repetition if you own his other albums, but an excellent buy if this is your first and only one. I, myself, will not be playing it. I've been 'had'.
