In The More Things Change by Chamein Canton, the reader is treated to the continuing story of the relationship between Cathy Chambers, a plus-size literary agent, and Marcus Fox, superstar of the NY Yankees. The book opens with the marriage proposal. Marcus, ever attentive to Cathy's needs planned a very romantic proposal with the help of her family and friends. And now the media feels they need to be a part of this personal experience. Since dating Marcus, Cathy has learned to accept the media intrusions and made adjustments to her life. But, a tabloid reporter has stepped up his vicious game to bring discord to the couple. Cathy gives in to her insecurities of a being a plus-size woman in a weight-conscious society and Marcus does everything in his power to reassure Cathy of his love and commitment to her while meeting the media head on. With these continuing media attacks, Cathy and Marcus keep each other first and always keep the romance in their relationship. But a "lie by omission" by Marcus threatens the trust between the couple.

Besides the issue of being a plus-sized woman, the story addresses several issues that many women face when attempting to have a relationship in their late thirties/early forties; older children, career advancement, established routines and lifestyles, and assumptions of male behaviors based on prior experience.

There is no question of the unconditional love that Cathy and Marcus have for each other and this is one of the story themes that I enjoyed. I looked forward to reading what romantic "treat" Marcus had planned next for Cathy. Marcus demonstrates throughout the story that he will do everything to take care of and protect Cathy. The dialogue and actions by Cathy each time she is confronted by a "fat" woman remark became a little predictable and after a while the reader feels like they are reading the same scene over and over. I recommend this book to romance readers and especially fans of Chamein Canton.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thick & Triumphant!, September 5, 2009
This review is from: The More Things Change (Indigo) (Paperback)
Ms. Canton delivers a very strong message in this romance that is hard to ignore: Love comes in all shapes and sizes. Cathy & Marcus fall in love Marcus is a professional baseball player and is affluent and good looking. Marcus' proposal to Cathy opens up a door to an old issue: do brides have to be skinny? Cathy is a full sized 16, mother of two grown men - why not be a full figured bride? Cathy has experienced all aspects of womanhood - why not celebrate! I loved this story and I enjoyed the realism of Cathy's struggle in maintaining her identity and NOT going along with societal norms. It must be noted that having a rich fiancé does make this issue more tolerable as Marcus was able to use his money as an influence - lets imagine if Marcus did not make millions - Cathy would have more of a challenge.
I loved this story - Ms. Canton does an excellent job on the couple's passion, and the friends/family around this couple really keeps the story going as well.

The More Things Change written by Chamein Canton is the sequel to Not His Type. In this book the character Cathy faces more opsticles. She is faced to plan a wedding and still living her every day life in front the whole world. She is still dealing with her insecurities and this time has to deal with her fiance' Marcus fox's past in the public eye.
Camein continues to write entertaining and interesting stories. The book was gramatically correct and was easy to follow. I enjoyed reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Equally As Phenomenal As The First Book!, May 7, 2009
This review is from: The More Things Change (Indigo) (Paperback)
Marcus and Cathy are back. Marcus Fox, shortstop for the Yankees, is ready to take the next step with the beautiful and intelligent Cathy Chambers. Once Cathy accepts his proposal, the media circus begins once again. Cathy is still somewhat insecure about her size, but Marcus and her family and friends are always there to reassure her and shower her with love. Marcus does however make some mistakes on the road to matrimony that he has to hope and pray Cathy will continue to love and support him unconditionally for. It is a dirty and rocky road to matrimony that only true love can successfully travel.

The More Things Change is the sequel to Not His Type by Chamein Canton. It is equally as phenomenal as the first book. Canton has again taken the plus size Cathy and made her just as beautiful and sexy as any other heroine in a romance novel. In doing so, she has made the characters very realistic and significant. The secondary characters are also back, adding yet another layer to this wonderful story.

3.0 out of 5 stars The More They Stay The Same, February 18, 2009
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The More Things Change (Indigo) (Paperback)
Cathy Chambers has a wonderful literary agency, her twins are doing well in college and things are great with the love of her life, New York Yankee shortstop, Marcus Fox. Life couldn't get much better until, Marcus proposed. What started as a happy occasion soon turns into a media nightmare and it has Cathy's insecurities rising above her happiness.

Cathy must deal with the unpleasant media scrutiny because she is a curvy full-figure woman, and happens to be a few years older than her fiancé. Marcus loves her regardless and pulls out the stops to insure their wedding goes on without a hitch. Unfortunately, things have a way of hampering good intentions. Will the couple make it down the aisle even with the multiple bumps along the way?

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE gives readers a look at a not so traditional bride and how love can overcome if you deal with the issues as they are presented. Canton put a nice spin on a bride-to-be who wasn't thin and used the issue of her full-figure to make Cathy realistic. The other characters were easily believable, but sometimes the constant roadblocks between the couple and the alter were a bit trying. The pacing was done in a deliberate manner and the ending was pleasing. Overall, this was a comfortable read, not overly steamy, but romantically satisfying nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars The More Things Change, December 11, 2008
This review is from: The More Things Change (Indigo) (Paperback)
Chamein Canton has given us the sequel to "Not His Type" with "The More Thing Change" we all know the saying that Nothing Stays the Same well for Marcus Fox and Catherine Chambers the unconditional love they have for each other did not change.

Cathy a Literary Agent living in New York who has been involved with Marcus Fox a shortstop for Yankees. In the sequel you will see Marcus propose and that is where the trail and tribulations come into play. Cathy must trumph of her insecurities because the media is still there and with becoming engaged to one of NEW YORK FINEST man and trying to plan her wedding she will under go a lot of emotion.

In this book you will also see how unconditioal their love is for each other and know they will get through anything that is put before them. Cathy still have to deal with her mother in here but she knows how to handle her mother now. We get to re-visit some character that you love in the first book.

I tell you Chamein has another winner on her hand with this book and I recommend you reading. I related to Cathy when she was planning her wedding and having the insecurities that any Brides has when planning your wedding. It does hurt when your man is right there by your side from beginning to end.

There is a surprise at the end, don't be like me I always read the last chapter of the book, and yes I know if spoil it for some but not me.

Enjoy the book you will not be disappointed.
