From Library Journal
This nice selection of Yiddish proverbs and aphorisms is categorized by 191 subjects, arranged alphabetically, that include such topics as authority, charity, futility, and gossip. Most of the material has been published before in various other collections. Kumove (Words Like Arrows, 1984) cites the source of each saying, a number of which have been collected from her "circle of family, friends and acquaintances." Each saying is given in Hebrew script, in parallel English translation, and in romanized Yiddish, using the method of transcription established by the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. A short introduction gives the background of the Yiddish language and some information on different aspects of Jewish life in Eastern Europe. Recommended for any collection of Jewish interest, especially for students of Yiddish and readers of popular literature.?Hayim Y. Sheynin, Gratz Coll. Lib., Melrose Park, PA
