More About the Author

Knitting and animals have always played big roles in Margrit's life. Her mother taught her to knit when she was 3 years old. At age 10, Margrit decided she wanted to be a zoo warden when she grew up. That didn't quite happen. She moved to New York City and became a graphic designer instead.

In 1977 she and her husband, Albrecht Pichler, bought a farm in the Hudson River Valley in New York State, and stocked it with a collection of animals: cats, dogs, ducks, chickens, peacocks and a flock of fine-wool Merino sheep. In 1983 the couple established MOREHOUSE FARM MERINO, a Merino sheep farm and yarn company. With an abundant supply of fabulously soft yarn tempting her, knitting became Margrit's new passion. And creating Critter Knits was the next logical step in her career as a designer. And for the past 30 years, Margrit has been the principal designer behind Morehouse Farm's popular KnitKits and Critter Designs.

Morehouse Farm's unique contribution to America's Merino sheep industry has been recognized by the New York Times, Forbes Magazine, the American Sheep Industry Association, and major TV stations across the country. And publications such as Martha Stewart Living, Victoria Magazine, Country Living, among many others, have written about Morehouse Farm Merino Wool.

"There are places in this world that feel magical. Morehouse Farm is one of them...Some of the magic at Morehouse Farm can be explained by the efforts of two of the most dedicated, hardworking, and stupendously creative people I have ever met: Margrit Lohrer and Albrecht Pichler, the farm proprietors."

Melanie Falick, "Knitting in America"

I'm glad Morehouse Farm finally decided to put together an e-Book with their critter patterns. I love their patterns, but buying them individually was pricy ($8 for the Alligator Pattern by itself!). So this collection is a fabulous buy. I'm very familiar with their patterns, having knit the Alligator Scarf and the Dinosaur Scarf (not in this collection), both were huge hits with my boys, and several years ago each got a pair of Bear Paw Mittens.
I think the patterns are well written, maybe sometimes a little redundant. But as the author explains: better to write the patterns clearly than to have knitters left clueless. I buy that!

Margrit Loher's knitting patterns are the most imaginativeI have ever found and I have been a knitter for decades. Her "critter knits" are especially enchanting and having lots of them gathered in one volume is an absolute delight. The book has clear instructions, creative tips and colorful illustrations.

Children will all love these critter knits, as well as any adult with a sense of humor. Buy this volume and get a head start on knitting holiday presents.

It's patterns like those in Morehouse Farm's first e-book collection that have earned me my 5-year-old grandson's declaration, "...and she's the best knitter we know!" (Alas, not at all correct, but) I've long been a fan of these wildly creative and soothingly simple critter knits, and rushed to score this super-reasonably priced selection. And now with more patterns in my collection I won't hesitate to add a scarf to my charity knitting donations of hat and mitten sets to children in need. Every child deserves to be wrapped up in this kind of warmth, love and fun!

I absolutely love the Morehouse patterns, and this is wonderful to get 20 of these great patterns so cheaply!! My son attends the University of Florida, and I made him the alligator scarf last year. It turned out so well! For that pattern alone, I paid $8, and I thought it was worth it. The design is very creative and the pattern was very easy to follow. I can't wait to make the Dragon scarf; it looks really fun, too. For cat lovers, there is a really cute cat scarf. This book also has some critter hats, mittens & bags. I love the owl purse! I plan to take my Kindle Wildfire with me on an upcoming knitting retreat, and knit one of these critters!

Available as EBooks and for PC's, these patterns are valuable keepsakes for knitting enthusiasts - easy to download, scrolling via up-and-down arrows, with photos of designs readily available, and contact for questions. I'm hooked!!

I have enjoyed Morehouse patterns and kits for many years. This set of patterns is no exception. Their patterns are easy to follow and very charming, from shawls to scarves to sweaters and critters....you can't go wrong. The yarn is reasonable and merino is simply the best. Thank You.

I am a big fan of Morehouse Farm. Going through this book it just made me smile. This is a great book for beginner knitters and experienced alike. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Thanks to Margrit and her whimsical patterns my holiday knitting list just got longer :). I am so excited about creating these little creatures and I can carry them all around with me on my iPad!

This had some cute items to knit for children, but learned a lesson the hard way. Do not order crafting books for a kindle. I don't want a heavy Kindle in my lap as well as my knitting too. A piece of paper wrapped in clear cover works much better for each pattern. I now have three knitting books, two with just one pattern, on my Kindle and will not do Kindle for knitting or craft patterns again. If there was a way to print them out I'd be much happier.
