Quality Assurance: The Morel Difference
Morel's peerless quality control is a key selling point. Every speaker with the Morel name on it is built, tested, and inspected in Morel's factory in Israel. Except for the production of the steel speaker housing, which is outsourced, Morel is directly responsible for everything.

And Morel knows that the days of filling your living space with fifty-pound speaker boxes that look like they belong on an Aerosmith concert stage are thankfully long gone. Morel drivers are based on what the company describes as "Hexatech technology," which employs a hexagonal aluminum wire voice-coil. Meanwhile, the speaker construction is based on its own "External Voice Coil," or EVC, technology, which uses a magnet with a shaped pole that fits inside the aluminum voice coil rather than around it. This EVC design offers higher efficiency and greater power handling accuracy. Plus, the design provides as much power response as conventional systems five times larger. In other words, what the speakers may lack in size, they more than make up for in power.

The SoundCenter C-5s tackle what is arguably the most important function in a surround sound movie -- reproducing the dialogue. This smartly designed black speaker is equipped with two 5.25-inch woofers to handle the mid/bass frequencies and a single wide-ranging tweeter for the higher tones. Alone, the speaker delivers a satisfying frequency response of 50 Hz to 22 kHz, but when combined with a comprehensive set of tonally matched surround speakers, it helps make DVD films sound rich, full-bodied, and seamless. While the SoundCenter C-5 is designed to complement the Morel Applause, Stream, or Nova speaker systems, it will enhance any home theater system with full, rich sound.

Listeners will also appreciate the shallow cone construction, which better disperses the sound over a wide listening area, so even folks sitting in the far corners can hear the precise dialogue. Additional features include an operating power of 15 to 150 watts, an 8 ohm impedance, and a crossover point of 6 dB + 12 dB at 5,000 Hz. The speaker measures 20 by 6.5 by 6.5 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a five-year warranty.

Note: New Morel speakers and components require 40 hours of "break-in" time before you'll achieve optimal performance. The response of any speaker will depend on how free the woofer cones are to move, and since new speaker components are bound to have stiff suspensions, a "loosening up" period should be allowed before passing final judgement on the system's performance.
