My first contact with some of these songs was through Anthony Coleman who recorded some very beautiful and adventurous renditions of traditional Sephardic songs, like Morenica and Adio Querida (to mention just the two included on this CD). I was curious to hear these songs performed in a more traditional way. Morenica is a very pleasant collection of songs, lovingly sang by Jacinta, a singer from Argentina, who accompanied herself on acoustic guitar. On few occasions she has a too strong vibrato for my taste, but I guess that's characteristic of the style in which these songs were performed. The accompanying booklet contains all the lyrics in original and translated in French, plus some general information about Sephardic songs and Jacinta (in English). What I find surprising is that composers are not mentioned anywhere, so I'm left to guess if all of these songs are traditional or if some of them were perhaps composed by Jacinta.

One of the best upbeat Sephardic albums of tradional songs,

I listen and own much Sephardic music in Ladino. This is right up there with Jusy Frankel as one of the best I have heard of the old tradional songs. Upbeat, great music--this won't put you to sleep!
