4.0 out of 5 stars THE GOOD OLD DAYS, June 25, 2000
By
Teresa Fisher (Washington state, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Morgan County, Missouri, Marriage Records, 1833-1893 (Paperback)
In researching family history, one finds many paths to travel. Not only can one learn names, dates, places, but also the spirit of the community. So many people suffered much through war and sickness, we wonder how did those lucky ones survive? Well, a good example can be found in Morgan County. Men struggled to keep their families safe and fed, and the women bore children under unbelievable conditions. And yet, they perservered to form rich, wonderful communities full of old world traditions. Strangers helped each other and always the generosity of self and labor became everyday ways of life. We could learn much from our ancestors, and as we go along researching our family trees, we can only be hopeful that their spirit of adventure and faith will help us continue to make America the great country that it is.
