Product Description

HOT PEPPERS: When Wilbur Scoville first devised a means to test the heat of peppers, his hottest entry then came in at 20,000 units. Habanero and Thai chilies can go as high as 60,000. Compare that to the sweet bell pepper at zero. When hot peppers are consumed, capsaicinoids bind with pain receptors in the mouth and throat that are responsible for sensing heat. Once activated by the capsaicinoids, these receptors send a message to the brain that the person has consumed something hot. The brain responds to the burning sensation by raising the heart rate, increasing perspiration and release of endorphins. Hot peppers should be eaten with caution!

The Naga Morich 'snake or serpent chilli' is one of the world's most sought after and fearsome chilli peppers. A recent sample of this rare Bangladeshi chilli was tested* using High-performance liquid chromatography and registered a mind blowing 1,598,227 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), that's 3 times hotter than the previous World Record Holder - the Red Savina Habanero or 300 times hotter than a Jalapeno pepper! In its native Bangladesh, it is used sparingly (and with great care) to add a searing level of heat to dishes by simply rubbing green unripe pods on ingredients. Even the fiery food loving Bangladeshi's are not stupid enough to eat a whole Naga pod.

Caution: The fruits of this chile variety are extremely hot. It is advised to wear gloves when handling the peppers, keep them away from children, and thoroughly clean all kitchen utensils like cutting boards, knives etc. When grinding dried chilis, wear a breathing mask, protect your eyes. Don't touch any sensitive parts before cleaning your hands thoroughly first. And use these peppers sparingly - it is always easier to kick up the heat of a dish than toning it down.

The plant you will receive is growing in a 3" pot.

Ordered this plant from Hirt's gardens, and halfway through the growing season, I find out I was given a Caribbean Red Habanero, not a Naga Morich. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Caribbean, but when you spen $10 on a plant, you would like to get what you ordered.

what I ordered and what I got are totally different. The plants were in excellent condition when received, too bad they werent what I ordered. I ordered 4 bhut jolokia 4 caribian and 1 naga. I recieved 8 caribean and 1 not naga but maybe a bhut jolokia. I knew something was up when the leaves started to come in and were different than the bhut and naga leaves.(looked up pics on the web) Luckily it was still early in the season and I placed my order with a different nursery and got what I wanted. Why did I not try to get a refund? To much hassle and time, time isnt what us gardeners have at the beginning of season lol. oh well live and learn :)
