It's all about the riffs.,

No, this is not a nonstop blur of blastbeats and buzzing guitar, so some of the more hardcore black metal fans may not be too crazy about this. But many metal bands don't come up with as many great riffs in their entire careers as these guys cranked out on this one album...and the main riff of the first track is so great, who could blame you if you found yourself listening to it over and over again?! And the recording makes up in heaviness for anything that is lacked in speed. As far as style goes, this album has a little bit of everything. IMO the standout tracks are 1,2, and 5-8. Track two reminds me of early Katatonia; track five kind of evokes Mayhem's The Freezing Moon; track seven brings to mind slower Morbid Angel; and track eight (probably the fastest song on the album) sounds like Transylvania Hunger, not as fast but weightier. Again, unless you demand that your black metal be nonstop hyperspeed, I don't see what's not to like about this album; and if you know anyone who wants to get their first black metal album, but doesn't know where to start, I think this is an excellent point for "jumping off" into the abyss. If you like it just plain dark and heavy, albums with this many great riffs just don't come out very often...so get it now!

good,
This review is from: Morke Gravers Kammer (Audio CD)
This is an amazing cd. The songs are most cirtainly some of the coldest ive heard since darkthrones 'transylvanian hunger' masterpiese. The production, tho very good keeps all the atmousphere that makes black metal so great. The first few tracks have quite a bit of groove to them as well, a quallity not often found in black metal. The whole cd is great from start to finish tho, not a bad track. Id highly recommend this to fans of DARKTHRONE, early MAYHEM, and any other black metal bands.

Hate with a groove,
By "guddomelig" (Edinburgh) - See all my reviews

This sounds similar to Khold's first two cds, which comes as no surprise. It has that slow groove to it, in fact there is no true "fast" song on the entire CD. But, it has a refreshing quality to it, the songs seem to breathe very nicely. It shows a bit more maturity for the band, better production yet it still retains that cold, hateful sound. The bass is very prominent, so do not expect a trebly tinny sound.I really enjoyed the drumming on this album. It is very eclectic and tasteful, more groove-laden than their first two albums. Buy this if you like that wonderful, cold Moonfog sound (i.e. Satyricon, Darkthrone)
