2.0 out of 5 stars Biased & not well researched, October 31, 2008
By
J. Spirit "mizzcrowley" (Springfield, Missouri USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mormonism Masonry and Godhood (Paperback)
I respect a few Christians who attempt to write an expose' about other religions, but I have several of Burns' titles and they are biased and poorly researched.
She totally ignores the information on The Mystery Schools which do make Mormonism and Masonry companions in that way. She also fails to cite (or explore) other information and sources that might even weaken her case, which is to prove Christianity right and all other religions and Christian-based sects as of the Devil.
On Pg. 72, for example, she states that the Hebrew word "heylel" means Lucifer and this is totally in error. (Isa. 14:12) Halal from where heylel comes has many meanings, none of which are a proper name, just as Jerome mistranslated in the Latin Vulgate Bible.
As a researcher, she also fails to note that Jerome also calls Jesus lucifer in the Latin Vulgate Bible.
"...donec dies elucescat et lucifer oriatur in cordibus vestris." 2 Peter 1:19

Halal is used 165 in the old testament and have positive and negative meanings, one of which is "boast". This certainly coincides with the king addressed in Isa. 14:12. However, it is not a title or a name.

There are also some ludicrous "comparisons" between Masonry and Mormonism, such as "1.) Both have temples, 5.) They both have a vow of chastity. (this is even common of Christianity) 8.) They both change clothing before a ceremony. 18.) Both use a gavel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truth, October 15, 2011
This review is from: Mormonism Masonry and Godhood (Paperback)
Sad thing about life, is that noone wants to hear what they may be doing is wrong. Especially when they enjoy doing it. Its so funny how the truth lies right in our face, and we are so ready to ignore it, its laughable. But then again, the best way to hide the truth is to lay it in front of you. Open your eyes, let him who have an ear, let him hear sound doctrine, why do we so readily run to foolishness, and after the lust of our hearts. Is the word of man that much more meaningful than the words of God? Our own selfish desires are what pushes us to make such foolish and poor decisions as listening to the foolishness that satan pushes to demean God, our Father. Stop allowing this deceitful being to be your master, and start "PRAISING" the only One worthy of our praise. We cannot become gods, we didn't always exist, and God the Father, was never a man, while this book may not be extreme into detail, the author does what the book is intended to do, inform. People always want to run to their own lust and sin, as their father satan wants, I hope you and your father have fun while you can.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad information, April 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mormonism Masonry and Godhood (Paperback)
Please beware: This book is not based on facts or research. This book is by no means a scholarly account and is misleading in it's title. It has very little to do with Mormon/Masonic parallels and is completly uninformative. Cathy Burns has no interest in the truth of the matter and seems to be only interested in Mormon bashing and spreading her own hateful message,(this is somewhat entertaining) while discounting the beliefs of others. With that being said, I would recommend spending the few bucks only if you are interested in a chuckle. The use of silly graphics and drawings, along with the overuse of bolded text to compensate for poor writing can be fun. If you are looking for research material, this is not what you want. If you are looking for a rediculous slam on Mormonism or Masonry, this is your book. Thanks Dr. Burns!
