5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe no one has reviewed this album, August 11, 2010
Well. Where to start? Great album. More folky sound that can be heard as well as on Slaves' Graves and Ballads but not without the endless beautiful experimentation with varied degrees and combinations of different instruments and heavy use of voice. Many of my Dave Longstreth's (the primary songwriter for the band) favorites are on here like climatic "To Give It Weight", kind of animal collective meets a lo-fi indie orchestra "My Brother Had A Birthday", the lonely "Grandfather's Jacket", to the heartbreaking and beautiful title track "Morning Better Last!".
Dave creates his own gravity with his music. More interesting, complex, and more graceful touches with dissonance than most bands in the world. This just feels like a snap shot of where he was at in composition. every album it becomes more and more tight, never worsening, always better. Really, any album by him, will at least surprise you. I love every single one. I would like to just say that you have check out his album before he formed the dirty projectors band "The Graceful Fallen Mango" under just is name.
Please listen. I couldn't plead harder.
