Essence of zen buddhism,
By A Customer
This review is from: Morning Dewdrops of the Mind: Teachings of a Contemporary Zen Master (Paperback)
Shodo Harada Roshi brings zen to life in this short collection of writings. Reflecting on current events and the state of society, he really brings the directness and simplicity of zen teachings home for the reader, cutting through any alienation or over-complication from the true heart of zen: awareness. His examples help to drive the practitioner forward, avoiding the delusion of ego-gratification, and the danger of empty, pointless practice.

Brilliant.,
By Kannon (Catskills, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Morning Dewdrops of the Mind: Teachings of a Contemporary Zen Master (Paperback)
These are teachings from a Rinzai Master that are truly non sectarian in scope. The fourth essay in this book "Only this Instant" is the best primer of a demythologized Mahayana Buddhism that I have encountered. I don't think the chapter was intended to be a primer but that is the beauty of this book; it moves in many directions at once.
