5.0 out of 5 stars I READ IT IN FIVE HOURS!
Talk about a book you can't put down... I read it in five hours! Not only is it a great love story, it's a manual on how to support someone with depression and see the light at the end of the tunnel, when they can't even imagine it. If you know someone, live with someone, or love someone suffering with depression you MUST read this book.

But even if...

3.0 out of 5 stars Depression does hurt and causes hurt
The book itself is very readable and once you get started you basically want to get through it and see what solution there is to solving the severe depression. The book spends too much time side tracked on a physical medical problem which no specilaist is able to diagnose even though towards the end of the book the solution appears out of thin air! There is more than one...

5.0 out of 5 stars A triumph of hope and love., February 6, 2006
By
Dr. Joe (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
Morning Has Broken is a book about how depression enters one's life and holds it, along with those we love, hostage. In Phil Aronson's terrifying ordeal, no one was closer to his agonizing, impossible depression than his wife Emme. Phil's story needs to be told because the word must get out that depression, as devastating an experience as it may be, is ultimately no match for the human spirit. Emme's story needs to be told because depression isn't limited to chemicals and individuals; it infects loved ones as well. Together their story is a complete story of surviving depression, one that deals honestly and courageously with the myriad challenges imposed on a family.

Together Phil and Emme have journeyed to dark places that unfortunately others must traverse, but as Phil eloquently states, "Our goal is to reassure readers...that they are not alone, or crazy, or without hope..." This is a book not only of a triumph over depression, but a triumph of love.

5.0 out of 5 stars a beautiful real experience shared for us all to benefit, February 10, 2006
i could not put this book down! i was so interested and captured by their experiences with life, with depression, with each other and the effects on their friends and family. the way it was written was so powerful and intriguing that i wanted to learn more and more about the debilitating illness of depression. i was captivated by the rawness of their feelings and how well these feelings were expressed on the pages of this book to be shared by the world. i hope that their experiences can be shared by all around the world as i feel it can be of such value to those suffering with depression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent narration of lives touched by depression, February 5, 2006

I just started reading this book and I can't stop. I want to read it every moment I get. I love the way the book switches off between Emme and Philip every other chapter. This is very unique and intriguing. I can really relate to the content and it is uplifting to read the way it is presented by the Aronsons.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely warm and open story that adds new dimension to life., April 14, 2006
I guess most people heard about depressions, but this is for real. I don't think anyone that hasn't had a very deep depression knows what it is about. The story really tells you what a depressions is about and also gives good clues on how to deal with a depression. It's a story that touches deep deep in the heart and brings new dimensions into life. Thanks Phil and Emme for writing it. Don't miss the opportunity to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Healing Power of Love and Bravery, March 3, 2006
Emme and Phil's story supersedes the tale of Phil's depression and reveals the depth of love, patience, hard work and bravery it took from both of them to triumph over a hellish ordeal. It has made me look at depression in an entirely different light and realize how many of us personally or through family members or friends have been touched by this disease. The real question is, are there any of us who haven't??

I especially like the way the story is told, alternating from Emme's perspective to Phil's, surrounding the same events and periods of time. You get to see depression from the afflicted person's vantage point as well as the caregivers' who are afflicted in their own way. The writing is crisp and articulate...you can't put it down... and conjures a frightening vision of what it is like to be in the midst of such an horrific crisis...and then come out the other side better and stronger. It's nothing short of inspiring.

Phil and Emme have a way of encapsulating large ideas in a simple phrase that can't help but stick in one's mind to carry and help others: "Don't do something permanent about a temporary problem", "You don't just snap out of depression. It's a disease. Do you just snap out of cancer or heart disease?"

If you have suffered from depression yourself or have been touched by this disease through a parent, an uncle or aunt, a grandparent, a friend, a child, a spouse, a co-worker, a teammate, a girlfriend or boyfriend, a classmate...don't walk, run to read this book. It provides uncommon clarity for what has become a global health crisis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Courage, February 4, 2006
I found this book to be so courageous. I believe that everyone in some way at some time is touched by depression.

I truly believe that Emme and Phillip want to help others. In order to do this they bared themselves so completely. This was a very courageous act.

I could not put the book down. I am a slow reader and I finished the book in 2 days.

The book itself is very readable and once you get started you basically want to get through it and see what solution there is to solving the severe depression. The book spends too much time side tracked on a physical medical problem which no specilaist is able to diagnose even though towards the end of the book the solution appears out of thin air! There is more than one story in the book which makes it seem that the authors did not have enough to tell about themselves. You do see what happens when depression hits a family and how it throws marriage and relations into a whirlwind of horrific ordeals. All in all it does show that we who suffered from severe depression must face our own demons and dark tunnels even when it causes torment and suffering to those around us. Unfortunately when we are in this state it causes more rage than one would like others to have. The reader would have probably liked to hear what the therapist told the wife on handling this dreadful situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars LITERAL LIFE SAVER from Mirel of Ca., January 12, 2007
This book is a literal life saver. I had just finished reading this book about a week ago. It was an opportunity to learn first hand what a person experiencing clilnical depression feels and acts on.

Then, I got an urgent call from my neighbor -- she had just received a desperate phone call from her daughter-in-law. My friend's son tried to leave their apartment and said he planned to jump off the bridge. My friend was shaking and crying out of control. I ran back to my apartment, grabbed Phillip and Emme's book. I told her about the book and there was hope for her son.

We quickly consulted the resource references in the book for help for this young couple. I am confident they will now be able to get the guidance they need to work through this crisis.

I want to express a heartfelt thank you, Phillip and Emme, for showing the way to other people to save the life of a loved one, or someone they don't even know personally. This book is an outstanding contribution to the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally ; depression examined from both sides., March 2, 2006
There are many good books on depression that are available but this is the first one I've seen that looks at it from both sides - that of the depressed and that of the caregiver/supporter. It is honest, humorous, straight forward and tremedously helpful. Both Emme and Phillip should be commended for opening up their lives, trails and tribulations to the general public. By doing so they have reached out to those of us who are afflicted with this disease or have a loved one who is and have helped them understand that they are not alone in their journey.
