Best Book,

This review is from: Morning Meeting Book, The (Strategies for Teachers, 1) (Paperback)
This is an awesome book to help build a sense of community in your classroom. The kids love the greetings and games, but best of all they are starting to lead the morning meetings themselves. Working in a low income area I didn't think the meetings would work, however the kids are starting to show more respect towards each other and learn how to greet visitors. I highly recommend this book for ANY classroom.

This book helped me set up a brain-friendly morning for my fifth grade students. Each morning there is a greeting, sharing, and activity and a message. I adopted the middle school term CPR, Circle of Power and Respect. My students look forward to CPR each day! I highly recommend this book for any teacher of grades K-8!

This resource is an excellent buy. After cutting morning meeting out of my classroom routines, I realized that it's not what I should have done. I wish that I had this book in the beginning of the year to help me with the morning meeting. There are so many wonderful ideas and activities in this book. If you get this book, I would also highly recommend Morning Meeting, Afternoon Wrap-up by Donna Whyte. That is also an excellent resource. The two together will give you what you need for your morning meeting.

Doing Morning Meeting is an important part of setting a class culture of caring. I was in a pre-k - 8 school where this basic model was used and saw a huge impact on the way that we dealt with each other and the way that trust was built between students and staff. I recently helped start a school in Baltimore City where this is a key component as we set culture. Where teachers "get it" and use it, the results are amazing. This book gives a good outline to how to set up and run morning meeting. I only wish that there was more information for middle and high schools where these techniques are just as valuable as they are for the earlier grades. I cannot imagine running a classroom or school without morning meeting and cannot imagine doing so without this as a resource.

I am a 6th grade teacher moving to 2nd grade this year. This book was a HUGE help in preparing me to organize my morning meeting. It is an easy read and has lots of helpful tips. I can't wait to start school this year and start my morning meetings!
If you are an elementary teacher, buy this book! You won't regret it!The Morning Meeting Book (Strategies for Teachers, 1)

Try this in your class,

This is something every teacher should try in their classroom, whatever their age. I admit it probably won't work 56% of the time, with time being short, NCLB tests every three days, and children with severe behavioral issues, but it is something that need to be at least tried. When it works, The Morning Meeting allows teachers to talk with students and weave curriculum with their lives.

Great ideas for team building,

The greetings and activities that I've used so far have been great for community and team building. I do not have the time to follow the book's format exactly, and it allows for flexibility if you, too, have time issues. I wish the activities had more details, examples, or "what to see from students." A few of the activities/greetings fell apart because I was caught off guard by the students' actions. For example, the Alphabet Story was tricky because a student would get stuck, or freeze up, when it was his/her turn. The other students would sit patiently for a minute, but the student was probably feeling so much pressure. Although I feel like I have good instincts about when to move on to the next person, a "heads up" about this from the authors would have been nice. It's a nice guide for getting Morning Meetings up and running in your class...especially if you are new to the profession and need ideas. This book was recommended to me, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to you either. Enjoy!

Our school is slowly implementing Responsive Classroom. We started with everyone reading this book and doing Morning Meeting this year. It is going great! The book is very helpful. Our team meets once a month to discuss chapters and talk about how things are going in our classroom. I would also recommend the First Six Weeks of School. They are both definitely worth buying!

This book was worth every penny and then some. As a seasoned teacher whose district is undergoing many changes, the information in this book is creating a very positive year for both myself and my students,

This is a helpful informative book, especially helpful for new teachers.
However, I would also recommend it for experienced teachers for some new ideas. |
