It tells the story of the first major American offensive in World War II when they landed the First Marine Division on a then remote island in the Solomon Islands. What followed was a bloody struggle with the Japanese Army and Navy for the possession of this strategically important stronghold. His first book entitled Afternoon of the Rising Sun - The Battle of Leyte Gulf also concerns the Pacific during World War II.
He is married, has three grown children, and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
