In the hot south, Clive McClintock wins a large bet and that very same night has it stolen away from him. Killing one of the robbers's, he smoothly takes on his identity (that of Stuart Edwards). Shortly after, he meets and marries a beauty named Celia. Sadly, it is a marriage of conveniance because the sole purpose that he marries her is because because of Mimosa, her cotton-abundant land. This marriage of conveniece was not a happy marriage. Celia also cames with some bittersweet baggage, a stepdaughter named Jessie, from her previous marriage.

At first, Jessie is too much to handle. welll...almost.. She rebells against her 'stepmama' and is totally against the marriage. But the more she gets to know Stuart , the more she likes and befriends him. When her crush makes fun of her clothes, Stuart is there to cheer her up. When she tells him that she hasn't bought anything for herself in 3 yrs, he takes care of it and gets her clothes that actually fit. He befrieds her and falls for her but when she fings out that she isn't really who he said he was .....all hell breaks loose. "Veni, Vini, vici ..i came, i saw i conquored" this is exactly what Stuart/Clive seems to be doing with Jessie's home and heart.

I really like this story. The writing style was nice and simple. This is the first book that I have read by Karen Robards and I'm not about to stop. There was a part that I thought the plot of the story was going to go another way ...like Clive's protitute girlfriend, Luce was secretly on in the robbery but oh welll..i guess that was a figment of my imagination. Other than that, the book aslo has wonderful imagery like the way that the starts sparkle at night and how the sun sets.. or how Jessie looks when she first wears her first dress. The characters are sweet and attractive and make a great pair. No complaints in that department. Don't hesistate to give this book a try

Relax, recline, fix yourself a hot cup of coffee or tea, possibly accompanied by a delicious box of chocolates...and read Morning Song! I first discovered this book when I was just 19, and I finished it in one delightful afternoon. I am an avid reader of romance novels, and this is certainly among the top 5 that I have read in my life. The hero is completely dreamy, rugged, assertive and hopelessly passionate and his lady is a believable and lovable character. Morning Song is filled with very intense love scenes, a thick and winding plot, and a completely satisfying ending. Wholly recommended, ladies!

This is a really good read. I love Karen Robards books and was not disappointed in this one. It has everything you want in a novel- a little mystery, some humor, and a lot of romance. I highly recommend it.

With every Karen Robards book I read, I become more of a fan. She writes books that keep you turning page after page and Morning Song is no exception. I empathized with Jess and understood Clive throughout the whole story. There is humor, romance, intrigue and steamy love scenes - what more could you want? I highly recommend this book.

It's so nice to find books like this. You know, back when romance novels were actually romantic, and weren't given stupid titles like Irresistable and Scandalous. And they actually sometimes included silly little elements like (gasp)character development. I really enjoyed the story of eighteen year old Jessi who fell in love with her stepfather. Give it to any professional reviewer and I'm sure words like "Offputting" and "Ick factor" will run amuck, but I sure liked it. More than anything Iv'e read in a long time, in fact.

I have been a reader of romance books for years and this book is breathtaking... hot and the true romantics best choice. Karen Robards has always had a way of tricking us into looking into the dark corners of our sensuality and with this one, I could not put the book down!

I have to disagree with previous reviews. The ending of this book did nothing to resolve the intense conflict between Jesse and Clive - it's like she just gave in and gave up. At one point I almost threw this one across the room when Jesse comes to the conclusion that Clive is many negative things - but NOT a killer - when he HAD killed another man within the prologue of the book! This book had a lot of potential - but, the ending was so contrived it was insulting. Stick to other much better books by Robards. This one left me disgusted.

I've always been a Karen Robards fan, and this is her very best. The hero and heroine's attraction is credible, realistic, sensual, edgy, and fun; the romantic tension is superlative throughout. Robards is one of the few romancers who creates men who act like and think like men yet still act like most women's fantasy come true. Clyde is all of these things; he's sexy, charming, sweet, funny, and authentic as a character and lover. I love the way he acts, talks and dresses, and forgive the way he thinks at times. I love that he shows his love to Jessie and yet the story moves on with sustained suspense. The sex scenes do NOT include an unsavory "protracted deflowering" by a drunken hero, but real passion run amuck. And so what if he's her stepfather by marriage? That is the key to the whole plot; there is no actual incest of any kind, and less than in novels with close cousins as the lovers! The Publishers Weekly reviewer needs to loosen her laces a bit and get real about the nature of sex/love. What I love about this novel is that the sparks between the two are carefully built up for a while, and when it flames, it burns hot, bright, and long. Emotionally very satisfying, while the plot was kept interesting enough to move the romance forward without needless distraction. It'll be a while before I have such a good read, but I also recommend Robards' Irresistible, Wild Orchids, Amanda Rose and her modern romances. This one, though, is her best.

Although I enjoyed the book, it is not the best work by Karen Robards, nor is it one of the best romance novels ever written. And it is definately NOT the "longest sex scene in history"! Whoever wrote that review has never read Elizabeth Lowell's earlier works where many of the sex scenes were much longer and much more graphic. There is nothing particularly special nor memorable about the plot or the characters. Morning Star is simply a fun read to pass the time.

COmpared to her recent contemporaries, her older books are hardly recognizable as Robards.. that being said, this book is great. You will get sucked in and she actually pulls of a somewhat difficult plot line very well.
