Simply put: The "BEST" of Marta's CDs,
By
This review is from: Morning Star (Audio CD)
This is Transylvanian (Erdelyi) music at it's BEST!!! Muzsikas *never* disappoints one and Marta Sebestyen has proven herself to be a "world-acclaimed" songstress: with a voice beyond comparison. I love the trills and half-step note variations which is the hallmark of Mezosegi violin playing ... most of this CD originates from this region. There is a slight off key note variation which becomes addictive ... the more you listen the more you love it. If traditional Hungarian folk music appeals to you - this CD is quite the best that Marta Sebestyen has yet produced (unless you love Balkan or Croatian, she is *very* versatile in style and nationality but 100% Hungarian in birth)!!! Wonderful, transporting music,
This review is from: Morning Star (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after a friend gave me another Muzikas album, and I fell in love with Marta Sebestyen's lovely voice and the sound of those shimmering fiddles. This particular recording is great because it features a fairly broad range of Hungarian folk music and the liner notes are quite extensive (unlike some other Muzikas recordings) which helps those of us unfamiliar with Hungarian music figure out, "What is that wonderful sound?" Although much has been written about Sebestyen since "The English Patient," it is the instrumentalists who keep me interested. The heterophonic violin textures, the cymbalom and the funky hit-gardon sound unlike anything west of Lake Balaton.

Marta Sebestyen & Muzsikas are a wonderful treat, especially in concert. The Morning Star CD captures the soul of their music and makes you want to hear it again and again!
