This review is from: The Morning Star: New and Selected Zen Writings (Paperback)
This volume from the late Roshi Aitken really served to open me up to Buddhist practice and spirituality in a way that I hadn't encountered before. No doubt it is because he was a Westerner himself, but his "Westernization" of Buddhism never negated his deep connection to the tradition, unlike some other authors out there. Robert Aitken has done us all a big favor by presenting Buddhist ideas in a form that we Westerners can more readily identify with. And this is as much to the credit of the depth of his own spiritual vision and creative intellect as it is to his Buddhist heritage. He was a true pioneer in the Dharma, and I owe the old Roshi my thanks.
