Book Description

March 1, 2010
As dark family secrets threaten the tranquility of the life he's come to love, Dalton Lindquist must make difficult choices about the future. To complicate matters, Phoebe Robbins falls into his life quite literally when Dalton rescues her after she tumbles overboard in the Sitka Harbor. He quickly loses his heart.

But Dalton is not the only one who decides to seek Phoebe's attention--his best friend, Yuri, decides to court her when Dalton must travel from Sitka. But when Dalton realizes the depth of his love for Phoebe and returns, the two friends find that their battle for Phoebe's admiration is only the start of the problems that face them.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

When Dalton’s sister Evie must return to Kansas City to deal with her husband’s death, he goes along to learn more about his heritage. He leaves behind a budding romance with Phoebe Robbins, newly arrived in Sitka as part of the third governor’s entourage, and an estrangement from his best friend, Yuri Belikov, whose father owns the local boatbuilding firm where both work. Peterson’s second historical inspirational romance set in late-nineteenth-century Alaska builds on the events of Dawn’s Prelude (2009) as they affect the next generation. Evie can move forward with her feelings for local mill owner Joshua Broadstreet, and Dalton will meet his other siblings in order to evaluate their temperaments and intentions for himself. Although critical readers may find some of the characters’ inappropriately modern sensibilities discordant, engaging descriptions of the Alaskan setting and cultural tensions and rapid pacing help the reader enter fully into the drama. --Lynne Welch --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

Phoebe Robbins quickly realizes that her life in Sitka, Alaska, will be a far cry from what she knew in the East. The weather seems to be constantly rainy, goods are often scarce, and there's little entertainment, save the small orchestra she joins. There are also plenty of men actively seeking a wife, but it is Dalton Lindquist--with his swarthy good looks--who is the most intriguing part of this isolated existence. Despite their unusual first encounter, Phoebe dares to hope that the spark she feels between them is returned in equal measure.

When Yuri Belikov, Dalton's best friend, begins to pursue her, Phoebe finds herself in a precarious position. Did she misread Dalton's interest? How will her decision between the two men affect their friendship? And what of the long-buried secret in her own family's past?

In the challenges ahead, Phoebe will learn of consequence and forgiveness...and the power of love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Morning's Refrain, April 7, 2010

Another excellent book from Tracie Peterson. I wait for her "series" in particular as you always have something more to look forward to at books end. I feel she has great descriptive qualities of both characters and the scenic wonders surrounding the characters in this good read about romance in early Alaska. I felt this book sort of got boring toward the middle and had to urge myself to continue but I knew I would have a third in the series to look forward to. There is both romance and action in this book and characters you won't forget. I suggest this book to any non-stop reader as I am.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacked authenticity and believability, May 18, 2011
This review is from: Morning's Refrain (Song of Alaska Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
This book was a real chore to finish. I wholeheartedly liked the setting in Alaska and the storyline was mildly interesting. The descriptions of the surroundings and climate were good. Unfortunately, the characters are shallow and the dialogue is not realistic. There was a lack of authenticity and believability to the characters. I didn't enjoy the way they all said the perfect things in the perfect way. It was really annoying. I don't recommend this particular book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morning's Refrain is an enjoyable book to read, May 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Morning's Refrain (Song of Alaska Series, Book 2) (Paperback)
I was unsure if I would enjoy the second book Morning's Refrain by Tracie Peterson in the series Song of Alaska because of the negative reviews that I read on this book. But since I had read the first book and enjoyed it, I decided to go ahead and purchase it and read it. Well, I am glad I did because I did enjoy it and look forward to the third book coming out soon.

This story takes place 18 years after the first book ends and is about Dalton Lindquist, the son of Lydia Lindquist. He desires to learn more about his past and who his family was before his mother came to Alaska to live. After much soul searching, he decides to leave Alaska for a time and go back to Kansas City with his Aunt Evie to search out the many dark family secrets. The book, of course, also, has a romantic side to it with Dalton falling in love with a woman named Phoebe.
