...and yet seems largely unknown. I can't even remember how I first heard of her, but I ended up reading both the Lymond and House of Niccolo series, and they are absolutely masterpieces. Think Patrick O'Brian, but elevated to the level of Jane Austen and Henry James. Later I was so curious to see what else she might have written that I searched Amazon and found all these other out-of-print novels that bring all her talents into a modern setting, and with female protagonists who in their own ways are every bit as memorable as the historical heroes. I've read 4 of them so far; this was the first I read (it also goes by the title of "Send a Fax to the Casbah"), and they're all equally great - hysterically funny, suspenseful, full of crazy plot twists, and chock full of character sketches worthy of either Charles Dickens or Elmore Leonard.
