From the Back Cover

Morocco's unique history has been shaped by the interaction of its native Berber population with successive invaders, including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and the French. Its natural landscapes are endlessly varied, from a mountainous northern coast and interior to deep valleys and rich coastal plains. This fully revised edition shows you how to immerse yourself in the local culture – wind your way through the twisting medina streets of Tangier, Casablanca, Marrakech and Fes; visit mosques and medersas; relax in a hammam; or shop for rugs, jewelry and spices at the local souk. A dream destination that stirs the senses and beckons adventure, Morocco is the land of the jinns', as intoxicatingly beautiful as it is culturally diverse.
Inside you will find: Morocco's regional highlights; over 600 hand-picked places to stay; over 600 restaurants, bars, and cafes; 50 maps and town plans; expert insight into Moroccan history, art, religion & culture; ideas to help you plan your trip, including information on festivals, and local market days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enhanced with 50 maps and town plans, December 5, 2004
The native land of the Berbers, Morocco is a fascinating land with a long history of invasions and occupations by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and the French. It is the Islamic country of such ancient cities as Casablanca, Marrakech, and Tangier. Now in a fully revised and updated edition, Morocco is a superbly organized and enthusiastically recommended travel guide to Morocco's regional highlights featuring more than 600 "hand picked" places to stay, as well as restaurants, bars and cafes. Enhanced with 50 maps and town plans, Morocco provides the traveler with expert insights into Moroccan history, art, religion, culture, festivals, and even local market days. Of special note is the wealth of ideas and advice for planning a trip.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent traveling companion, November 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book provided a great intro to a country I never knew anything about, and continued to provide good information all the way through my trip. The first several sections have brief spiels on different aspects of Moroccan culture and life (e.g., traditional food, what to expect as a solo female traveler, arts and crafts). For improvement, I would suggest more detailed maps with more street names, especially of the medina. I ended up having to use another book as a supplement in the map area. All in all, however, the book is indispensable for any traveler.
