5.0 out of 5 stars From a Frequent Listener to Moroccan Music, August 23, 2000

I love the varied music of Morocco alsmost as much as the country itself. I've gone to sleep in Ouarzazate listening to music from outside my window, and I have adored the "street music" in its various forms from Marrakech (anyone who has been there knows what I mean) to cheap tapes wailing in the markets. For anyone interested in getting an overview of this fascinating genre of music, this CD is a great introduction. You also get to learn about the country and even have a recipe for Moroccan food which is nearly as fabulous as the music. I do recommend this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Morocco, November 21, 2001
By
Laura Cameron-Sadki (Vancouver, WA United States) - See all my reviews
I bought this album for my husband who is Moroccan. At the time he immigrated to the US in 1995, it was difficult to find good recordings of Moroccan music other than in disco/pop styles. He was very pleased with the album's wide range of songs which cover almost all the musical genres of Morocco. The liner notes by Paul Bowles are particularly interesting to people who have no background with Moroccan culture or music. We still listen to this album some 5 years later, and we haven't grown tired of it. It would reccomend it highly as a wonderful introduction to the richness of Moroccan music.
