One of my favorite architects on an excellent CD.,

This review is from: Morphosis: Recent Works (Planet Architecture) (CD-ROM)
This latest CD from Planet Architecture is just excellent. This is the third volume that I've purchased, the other two also being excellent, but I'm particularly influenced by the work of Thom Mayne so I was extremely excited to finally find a CD of his work. The CD didn't disappoint - I'm learning a great deal more (and some totally unexpected things!) every time I go through the disc. The interview videos are filled with surprises and I found Mayne to be both much more engaging than expected and quite the pleasure to listen to. He explains in spoken language many things that I think would have been difficult to comprehend by simply reading or studying his drawings. That being said, the large number of drawings, photographs, and Quicktime VR examples are simply invaluable for gaining a deep understanding of his work. I consider the discs from Planet Architecture to be works of art in themselves, and really a great example of what the CD medium is capable of communicating when it's done right. I'd highly recommend it to both my fellow architects who want to learn something new, as well as any cliet interested in new directions in architecture.

if you want to better understand the work of morphosis, this cd gives you an in-depth overview of morphosis' recent works including Hypo Alpe-Adria Center, Diamond Ranch High School, 101 pedestrian Bridge, Univ. of Toronto Grad Student Housing, and so much more. these are some of the most exciting and innovative buildings in the US and abroad by Morphosis. you will enjoy how they use the non-traditional approach which transcends materials, forms, and tectonics, reflects an architecture rooted in time, place and purpose. THIS CD is a comprehesive collection of video interviews, photographs, drawings and models. i give this item two thumbs up.

This CD is a bit short of a new media experience; the content and file size is limited and low res.; I had hoped it would permit more detailed viewing than the equivalent material in book form. I also bought the Hadid CD which was several years newer, slightly better presentation and more content. Still neither gave the satisfaction of flipping pages at the coffee table or on the thrown.

More than helpful!,
This review is from: Morphosis: Recent Works (Planet Architecture) (CD-ROM)
Glad that Morphosis is featured in the planet architecture series. The virtual reality panoramas really show you the power of these digital archives. I haven't got a chance to be in many of these buildings so these archives get me as close as i can get. Lots of good info and interesting interviews. Looking forward to seeing more archives on these great architects.

Morphosis through new eyes!,
By Julia La (Long Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Morphosis: Recent Works (Planet Architecture) (CD-ROM)
Morphosis is leading the way for new architecture with innovative, fluid designs today, and what a better way to discover their works than through Planet Architecture's feature CD-Rom. It is comprehensive with plenty of exciting photos, drawings, interviews, and so much more providing you with a deeper understanding and analysis of the projects without dry reading. It includes much more interesting content than any comparative book and for a very modest price. Rather than breeze through a lacking book, the CD engages your interests as you explore and interact. Navigating through the CD is intuitively easy. It is well worth the money to get complete studies on the many dynamic projects listed. I recommend it to anyone that is considering, you will not be disappointed!

This review is from: Morphosis: Recent Works (Planet Architecture) (CD-ROM)
Planet Architecture's Morphosis CD is a in depth view of the recent works Morphosis has designed. It features works such as Diamond Ranch high school, the 101 pedestrian bridge, the University of Toronto Grad. student housing, and the Hypo Alpe-Adria-Center. This CD offers viewers a great deal of information on the design of these buildings. For example, each project has a review on the site, concept, program, materials, time of construction, and size of the design. It also offers viewers a great deal of drawings including floorplans and sections. In addition to drawings there are also many renderings for each building, allowing the viewer to see and understand the building from many angles. Each building also includes photographs of the project. This CD also offers an interesting video interview with the architect (and principal of Morphosis), Thom Mayne. As a result, this CD is very easy to use, and offers a great deal of information on arhitecture today. Morphosis is one of the leading architecture firms that design innovative architecture. The projects featured in this CD allow the viewer to observe the latest in design, tectonics, and materials used in today's architecture. With the help of photographs, drawings, and renderings, one can experience the projects in this CD with great ease. These features also allow viewers to understand the design internally, externally, conceptually, and realistically. In conclusion this CD is worth a look at, for it is a great way to view the lastest in architectural design.
