For thousands of years, people from the ancient Egyptians to the Greeks to the Vikings have pitted their wits against the strategic game Morris (or Mill). So popular was this game that a detailed portrait of the game was commissioned by the King of Spain in the 13th century in The Book of Games. Now you can try to outwit the game that fascinated the ancient world! The game takes place on the twenty-four points where the grid lines on the board meet. Two players take turns placing stones on any empty point on the board. When all eighteen stones have been placed, players take turns moving one stone per turn to the adjacent, empty point along a line. Each player tries to make a row of three stones of the same color along any straight line, This is called a "mill." A player who completes a mill can then remove one of the opponent's stones that isn't part of a "mill"; if all of the opponent's stones are part of mills, then a stone from a mill may be taken. Stones that are removed from the board may not be used again. The player with only 2 stones remaining on the board loses.
