Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Informed essays and critical reviews of every album recorded by Morrissey, both as a member of The Smiths and as a soloist. Features a song-by-song analysis, a song index for easy reference, and details of compilations and live albums. Critical reaction to Johnny Rogan s previous book: Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance (published by Omnibus Press) The most controversial book of the year... Rogan has more than done his homework and treads a fine line between academic rigour and breathless fandom. A major achievement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Overview Of Morrissey's Solo Career !, February 19, 2007
By Brien Comerford (Glenview, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This incredibly informative book by Johnny Rogan primarily focuses on Morrissey's solo albums, songs and B-sides. The author is very comprehensive and incisive and there are many interesting interviews. He rightfully lauds some of Morrissey's overlooked CDS including "Southpaw Grammar", "Maladjusted" "Kill Uncle" and the masterful "Bona Drag". All Smiths and Morrissey fans must buy this over 300 page book that is laden with details, insights, revelations and glimpses into the enigmatic mind of Morrissey. He is the music industry's most captivating crooner, ardent animal rights activist, literate lyricist and mysterious superstar. Great book by Mr. Rogan. He merits infinite plaudits for this incredibly enlightening book. Morrissey is one of a kind.

5.0 out of 5 stars An in-depth analytical account especially ideal for music scholars and Morrissey connoisseurs., November 3, 2007
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
Johnny Rogan, author of the best-selling biography "Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance" presents Morrissey: The Albums, an in-depth study of Morrissey's musical work with the Smiths up through 2006 and "Ringleader of the Tormentors". Each of Smiths' and Morrissey's albums is discussed at length; Rogan explores the themes and context of the lyrics, the pathos of the music, references to each piece's performance and relative success, and much more. An in-depth analytical account especially ideal for music scholars and Morrissey connoisseurs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much repetition, September 17, 2007
Frankly, the book was a little dissapointing. Too much repetition, and not enough about the meaning of the song. Also, too little in the preamble about Morrissey's life.
