5.0 out of 5 stars Definately Not 'Disappointed', July 26, 2002

This review is from: Morrissey - The Malady Lingers On [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Although Morrissey's 'Oye Esteban' DVD release contained several more music videos than 'Malady Lingers On', fans of Morrissey need look no further when considering which tapes to add to their collection. Out of print, this is one tape that does not miss and is highly sought after. There are eight videos contained on 'Malady Lingers On' (named after a 1935 film that was later re-titled 'The War Bride's Secret'), all of which have a charm all their own. Not to mention the ever bruding Adonis Morrissey. The first video is 'Glamorous Glue'. There isn't much to the video as Morrissey and the boys are performing in a club I beleive is located somewhere in Chicago. The song is rather catchy though and Morrissey makes for a nice outing. The second song is 'Certain People I Know'. Funny that Morrissey's 'Every Day is Like Sunday' comes to mind since the video is shot as he is "trudging slowly over wet sand". (A beach) A little different than the norm, Morrissey shows that a lonely beach can prove to be a spot to be seen at even if no one is around to watch. 'Tomorrow' plays out to be the third video on Malady. The video is shot in a maze-like villa located in the city of Nice, France. The camera pretty much follows Morrissey as he leads his bandmates through the city in which various locals look in confusion as to what is being shot. 'We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful' is next and proves to be my favorite video. I loved it when Morrissey goes from playing the serious 'straight man' role in an abandoned lot to giddy as one of his band members tries to seduce him with a taste of his ice cream cone. (I still smile thinking about it.) 'My Love Life' plays as the fifth video which shows Morrissey and mates driving around Pheonix, Arizona as they stare longingly at the road ahead of them. 'You're The One For Me Fatty' goes between flashes of Morrissey and a date which consisted of a thin man giving a large woman flowers after which the two then go on a picnic in the park. Very sweet. In 'Sing Your Life' we see Morrissey and the boys performing a show at a small club. Funny enough, Pretenders front singer Chrissie Hynde is shown dancing in the crowd. Nice fan piece. 'Pregnant For The Last Time' is the last song which shows Morrissey and crew performing a live show in Berlin and touring the area. This is one great video all fans of Morrissey should own. I love the nice mix of styles Morrissey highlights and the many faces Moz shows in their videos. I highly recommend buying this video.

This DVD contains 8 video clips of Morrissey from the years 91-92. Do not expect amazing effect accordingly...
It's a nice DVD to have, and not too expensive. All in all, I would recommend this for Morrissey fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating look at the icon, December 31, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Morrissey - The Malady Lingers On [VHS] (VHS Tape)
One of my biggest mistakes in life was lending this tape to a friend who never gave it back. This collection gives us (especially in the US where MTV rarely, if ever shows Morrissey videos) a look at Morrissey takeling the art form of music video and he does it excellently. Morrissey is fascinating to look at and watch, these videos give his fans a chance to see him in a new light...I hope they start making it again soon. While he is no where near the artistry of Madonna(Who is?) when it comes to videos, Moz handles these selections with humor and they are a fun trip through his world, where many just concentrate on his meloncholy tendancies. After watching this you might think he is happy or at least not ready to go "Asleep" after all.
