3.0 out of 5 stars A Key Legislator on a Key Topic, but Needs More Detail!
Tom Tancredo has long sounded the alarm over America being invaded from Mexico. He correctly points out that shared values, history, and language are essential to a strong sense of direction and progress, that hyphenated Americans divide us and make us weak. Meanwhile, the guise of "multiculturalism" leads government and education to encourage the problem by...

Illegal immigration is one of the biggest problems facing this nation since the terror attacks on 9-11. However, getting Washington D.C. to do anything about it is near impossible.

Actually, this book addresses why illegal immigration is bad for Mexico. Why? It allows the corrupt and rich government of Mexico to ignore reforms to help the majority of their nation. That over looked fact has been bothering this reviewer. While all the free trade and pro-illegal immigration people call the anti-illegal immigration people racists they ignore the fact that the corrupt Mexican goverment is full of crime and oppression. The pro-immigration crowd actually hurts the relatives of the people who come to America.

Tancredo does a great job of telling of the law enforcement problems, the budget problems, and the potential health problems of this huge wave of humanity. Note, the Representative will talk of the great immigration wave of the turn of the 19th Century and how those people had to meet a health screening. Right now there is no health screening for the mass of humanity coming across the border. This nation is asking for a break out of a disease. And Washington does nothing.

Representative Tancredo does a great job giving solutions to the problem. It's quite unfair that illegal immigrants are used to depress the wage scales of working Americans. Employeers should be held criminally responsible for this. If the solutions that Representative Tancredo offers then the USA can control the problem that floods our borders.

If Representative Tancredo solutions are not met then we can look forward to great change in the USA that will not be for the better. We will have a large number of people who will not have loyality to this nation, they have loyality to the customs and traditions of Mexico. And this problem may endanger the future of this nation.

This is a five star book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tancredo 2008!, July 7, 2006
For those Americans who do not follow politics, (you know who you are) One voice has stood basically alone on Capital Hill leading the battle against illegal immigration. That lone voice has been assaulted with endless criticism from virtually all fronts, ranging from big business to the liberal media. Thank God Tom Tancredo (R-CO) has not withered from the incessant criticism and in the dominion of gloried statesmen such as Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry, has stood fast for what is RIGHT for America. In his book, IN MORTAL DANGER: THE BATTLE FOR AMERICA'S BORDER AND SECURITY, Tancredo brings readers up to date as to why this battle he wages is so critical for America's future.

America has long held a "re-active" stance on issues, particularly where foreign policy is concern. Tancredo encourages taking "pro-active" measures before it's too late. (And that window of opportunity is rapidly closing).

As little as four years ago, Tom Tancredo was a virtual unknown among capital hill members of the House of Representatives. Today, he has successfully formed the 90+ member Immigration Reform Caucus and has established himself firmly as the leader in this important aspect of future generations.

You will find everything here you expect in a book of this nature. All the relevant statistics are included in frightening detail. But Tancredo goes a great deal further than just filling this book with statistics. He uncovers hidden problems associated with failure to act now to illegal immigration, (bankrupt medical facilities, already over-burdened welfare and education systems, not to mention national security risks) as well as dispelling countless myths associated with it (America can't survive without illegal immigrants, there's nothing we can do to stop it, and that anyone favoring stopping illegals is a bigot).

Tancredo clearly shows that he will not worship at the alter of party politics, as he squarely places a great deal of the blame upon the shoulders of President Bush, for not only failing to take action, but for spouting off about the importance of national security, all the while knowing full well that al-Qaeda operatives are actively breeching our porous southern border! It is also rather ironic that we, as a country and as a government, are preaching about destroying corruption in Middle Eastern governments, all the while promoting corruption within our own southern neighbor by not encouraging reform!

This book doesn't stop with simply detailing the problems. Tancredo offers detailed and effective solutions for saving the America we call home. This is quite possibly, the most valuable and critical book to be published this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars "A lightening rod is a sentinel", June 15, 2006

Tom Tancredo's book is one of the most important of our generation. He tackles not just the immigration debate and border security, but the root causes of this problem and the system issues behind it. The book devles into history and investigates the "cult of multiculturalism" and the meaning of citizenship. It is much more than just a campaign book, although it very may well launch a presidential bid for Tancredo, it is a weighty treatise on the changing nature of America and what it will take to win this strugle for the very survival of the nation.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READING!! #1 RECOMMEND ON SAID TOPIC, July 23, 2006
Read the book in 2 sittings. Having read most of the books out on said topic, this 1 so far takes the cake. Prior to this 1, Dougherty's Illegals probably held 1st place. Both are bone chilling in their scholarship and revelation; and they both kind of work together. But I believe this 1 to be just a nose out in front.

Tancredo enunciates the problems in depth from virtually all angles: The myths people have bought in to that we're better off in some ways (we're not); the monetary expense on all fronts and how it's bankrupting us (schools overtaxed & overloaded, hospitals closing); the health issues and what many problems and diseases are being introduced into our society by illegals; crime, gang, and prison-overload issues; political and terrorist ramifications (MASSIVE ONES!!!); even stupidity, corruption and abuses and abuses of processes, on both sides of the border in virtually all departments up to and apparently including the U.S. Judiciary itself.(But on this last, I suppose what can we expect when court jesters in England had a better knowledge & understanding of the law than many U.S. lawyers do today.)

What adds on the highest star is that it doesn't just enunciate the problems. It delineates a course to correct the problem, if we have the testicular fortitude to do it; and soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! What a Wake-up Call to American's!, July 21, 2006
I had no idea that some of these things had been going on in my country. Tom's, tell it like it is style, boils down the real risks of a do nothing attitude. I believe that he speaks to the millions of American's who have been asleep for too long. How can anyone living in America, read this book and not see the effects of illegal immigration on our communities, schools, healthcare and security. I think that his plan to fix the borders will be implemented and that it's only a matter of time. After reading this book I can no longer say I didn't know, but it's nice to know I can do something and there is a solution. I would defiantly recommend this to all my American friends, liberals included. Thanks, for the lesson Tom!! I learned a lot!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this for yourself rather than let those who smear Tancredo decide for you, August 9, 2006
One of the things I enjoy least in our current style of political debate is the technique of trying to keep certain arguments out of the political debate by smearing those who are making the argument as bigots, fools, or in some other way "outside the mainstream". If you heard an argument that was outside the "mainstream" (whatever that would happen to be) you would recognize it wouldn't you? So, you don't need to be told to not listen to someone trying to make a point because when you hear something stupid, you know it. The reason for making such an argument is to smear those making the argument in order to silence their voice before anyone hears what the argument is. The principle reason for using this all too effective technique is because the argument usually makes some sense because it isn't outside the mainstream. It may be outside what a given political party wants to peddle, but these arguments often resonate with average folks and are therefore dangerous to those already holding power.

Rep. Tom Tancredo has long been on the receiving end of such treatment. Here is how he was described in the April 3, 2006 Newsweek, "Not so long ago, Tancredo was regarded as little more than a noisy pest on Capitol Hill. His colleagues shook their heads at his tireless demands for crackdowns on American employers who hire illegals and his idea for a 700-mile-long fence along the Mexican border. But in recent months, some of those same Republicans have come to realize that, while Tancredo may be a crank, he is a crank with a large and passionate following." Pathetic.

One need not agree completely with Tancredo or endorse all his views in order to say that this book does not read like the work of a crank and his arguments resonate well with what the majority of Americans say they want: the borders and immigration controlled, the assimilation of immigrants into the larger American culture a part of the immigration process (including learning English), and our education establishment to end its campaign of anti-American "education". This is not racist or xenophobic. In fact, most people who want the borders controlled also want immigration. We recognize it as an economic necessity and part of our cultural history. However, we want it controlled for a number of important reasons not the least of which is national security.

The book is in three parts: The American Identity, Our Broken Immigration System, and What Needs to Be Done. The first lays out the problem we face in our traditional American Identity suffering because of mis-education in our schools, by too much hyphenation before the term American and our immigrants left unassimilated, by uncontrolled immigration and the threat it leaves open for terrorists.

The second shows us clearly what is not going on in protecting our borders and in tracking those who are legitimate guests let alone those who have come in illegally by the millions. He gives the lie to the idea that our economy requires illegal workers and demonstrates how the employers of such exploitable people are not being kind, generous, or good citizens. In fact, they push huge and unsustainable costs (check out the list by state of the billions of dollars spent just to educate the children of illegal aliens on page 157) onto local communities for education, medical care, and more that should be borne as part of the job in order to appreciate its true costs.

This is an important point that is not often appreciated by those arguing for open borders. I usually agree with the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, but open borders are NOT possible with a welfare state. Yes, a hundred years ago and more anyone who could get here could live here. But back then things were much harsher. There was no welfare state or safety net to fall into. You relied on yourself or your family or your friends or some charitable organization. Or you died. Of course, we don't want to let people die on our streets, but it also means that we cannot afford to provide entitlements to everyone who finds a way to get inside our borders.

The third is Tancredo's prescription for fixing the problems he identifies. The last chapter is brief and is an exhortation for you to read two books he recommends and to contact your representatives and demand that they pay attention to this issue and actually do something to fix it.

Read the book for yourself. Don't let those who slander Rep Tancredo decide for you. It is an interesting book. If you still disagree with the author after you read it, you will be able to disagree in an informed way. However, you might find the material he provides here to be informative and persuasive and will then be able to insist that your political representatives use the votes to secure the borders, strengthen the American culture, and control immigration. We all want a welcoming America. We also want a secure America. These goals need not be exclusive and they are not incompatible with strongly enforced immigration policies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tancredo for President of the U.S., July 8, 2006
By
I am listening to Tom Tancredo on c-span2 BookTV right now, and if everything he is saying is in his book, I am going to buy his book. This man is in touch with the pulse of America. Fighting illegal immigration is not going to turn away hispanics. Hispanics who come here legally feel the same way the rest of us feel. If we have to obey the laws of our land, so should illegals.

President Bush is so out of touch on this issue its unbelievable. Securing our borders will not hurt the Republican party. It will breathe new life into it. And how scary and infuriating is it that our leaders in Washington actually think illegal aliens should be given preferential treatment and be listened to over natural-born citizens and citizens who come here legally?

Mr. Tancredo tells about an item that was going to be voted on in Arizona that President Bush was against. He called Republicans telling them to stay away from it because it would hurt the Republicans with the hispanic vote. Tancredo said that alot of money was spent trying to defeat it. He says this item passed anyway with the people voting on it, and it got 47% of the hispanic vote. And still our leaders refuse to see the light?

I agree with Peggy Noonan that it may be the right time for a new political party in this country.

5.0 out of 5 stars should be required reading for every American who loves this country, July 18, 2006
Tom Tancredo is a rare breed in Washington........a statesman who can not be bought. This book is so important that I think that it should be required reading for every American who truly loves this country and ESPECIALLY those who are not well informed about the very real possibility that America, as we know it, may cease to exist in the very near future, if nothing is done to secure our borders and to preserve our culture and our heritage. I highly recommend this book for every student who attends our public schools, where only the politically correct version of American history is taught. Please, do yourself a favor and read this book. Tom Tancredo deserves to be our next President of the United States as he has proven time and time again that he puts love of country above his own political career.

5.0 out of 5 stars "In Mortal Danger" Alerts Citizens To The Invasion Of America, August 26, 2006
By
H. J. Rossi (Shawnee Mission, KS USA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
Congressman Tom Tancredo is not a Johnny-Come-Lately to the realization that an invasion is occurring at our southern border. Other members of congress would avoid him, asserting that "Here comes that nut-case Tancredo", a one-issue politician fixated on border control.

That is.....until 9/11, that is...until demonstrations, with foreign flags flying, that is.......until other congressmen and women went home and amazingly (to them) found a groundswell of indignant voters who are furious with their representatives for their failure to secure our borders. Having had their feet put to the fire, they now corner Tancredo and ask for details of his thinking on "the border issue" as they call it.

Mr. Tancredo takes the reader logically through a recap of what it means to be an American, from the roots of the founding of the nation to the current Balkanization called Multiculturism that threatens the very existence of the country. He covers at some length the details of immigration system in use today, why it as badly flawed and his perception of what is to be done about it.

The Congressman also has a chapter on a subject that I have long felt needed to be covered: the threat to our health and our health system. Many illegals, coming from Third World countries have re-introduced life threatening diseases that have long been overcome here. Diseases such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague and polio. Leprosy, as an example, had been so stamped out that in the last 40 years, only 900 people were afflicted. Suddenly, in only the last 3 years, America has more that 7,000 cases of the disease. Malaria, long gone from our country, is now reemerging in Texas. And where is the Main Stream Media in alerting our citizens about this threat? Well, wringing their hands about a Bird Flu death to a chicken farmer in China.

The author also covers some obscure, but vitally important subjects like Anchor Babies and Environmental Impact. Obviously, his work as the chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus has given him a unique insight to dangers unrealized by others.

This is a powerful book with no punches held back. Well written, and should be required reading by the citizen who wishes to be well informed of the real and present dangers to America posed by our porous borders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware of the 1 star reviews..., July 7, 2006
By
Brian Fuchs (Thousand Oaks, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I have followed Tom Tancredo for years, and he is the antidote to double-speaking politicians. If you've seen him on Lou Dobbs or O' Reilly or anywhere else, then you know what this book is about. Tom hasn't wavered in his stance over the years.

I find it amazing that some Amazon reviewers like Steven Pennington will out-and-out lie hoping people will believe him. Tom has not "consistently voted for outsourcing" high-tech jobs or any other jobs. Visit NumbersUsa.com and check out Tom Tancredo's voting record for yourself. He has been one of the few in Congress to consistently call for the lowering of caps on the American Job-killing H1B and L1 visas.

But don't take what I write at face value, either. Mr. Tancredo's voting record is public record, accessible to anyone willing to spend 20 minutes to find it. He is as consistent as death and taxes.
