After playing the pervious version (Mortal Kombat 3) I was quite impressed and would have expected the next (Mortal Kombat 4) to be even better. However the cold hard fact is that this is just not true. When I first got this game I opened it with trembling fingers and quickly slid in the game and went right for the power switch only to be stunned with disbelief. The graphics were horrendous, the sound was almost pointless, and there was no control to speak of once you started playing. The bottom line is this game isn't even worth thinking about. My suggestion to you if you must play Mortal Kombat right now is to get Mortal Kombat 3. But if I were you I'd wait till Mortal Kombat 5 comes out.

Just give up, this game is so bad i dont how it got a seal of quality. Its MK3 remade. choppy terrible graphics, horrible sound, moves, and everything else. I can't even tell which character im choosing!! You can tell they put noo effort into this game at all. If you want a fighting game try street fighter alpha on Gbc, and stay far away from this!!!

Talk about a strange marriage. Mortal Kombat, the media's favorite whipping boy when it comes to showing how violent videogames can get, meets the world's most popular game platform for kids. Of course, we're talking Game Boy here, so don't expect copious levels of gore and violence in the first color handheld incarnation of the arcade fighting hit. Let's face it, with its merely average fighting system, the Mortal Kombat series owes a great part of its success to the fact that it combined fast action with over-the-top violence and buckets of blood. But how does this translate to the Game Boy? In order to reach a broader handheld audience and receive a Teen rating from the ESRB, Midway had developer Digital Eclipse (is there any game these guys aren't programming?) tone down the gore level to a minimum. Gone are the puddles of blood from the arcade and console MK4 incarnations and we're left with bare-bones "kombat" before drab backgrounds with short "FMV" fatality sequences that are little pay-off for braving the game's boring fights. The eight characters that made the cut from the original MK4's 15+ are recognizable, thanks to the large, tricolored sprites and the animation isn't bad. But the large sprites have their price and the game just doesn't feel smooth, fast and responsive enough to call itself MK4. Running is easily executed by holding A and B, A throws a punch and B triggers the kick, while the Start button blocks attacks (if you can reach it without hurting your thumb). Entering key commands to pull off some of the few (and rather unspectacular) special attacks is simple. Three strokes do the job for the special moves and a maximum of four commands on the directional pad unleash each character's fatality on a stunned opponent. In the sound department, MK4 disappoints with annoying "percussive" tracks and weak sound effects, but at least the game spits out a few amusing voice samples, such as "Fight!" and the ubiquitous "Fatality!" Sadly, MK4 doesn't support link-up gaming, which means you can only beat up on the computer. To make thing worse, the computer AI in the one-player mode is simply laughable and fails to present a serious challenge to any Game Boy fan. While it may appeal to die-hard Kombat fans, everyone else is best advised to skip this below average pocket fighter. I enjoyed Mortal Kombat 4 on the console systems quite a bit, but the Game Boy version just doesn't cut it for me. Playing alone with an overly limited set of moves against a dumb computer drone gets old real quick. The inclusion of lots of Kombat Kodes is nice, but it's just not enough to energize this lifeless port.

IT is hard! But it is fun. Ive had it for a year and still have not beaten it! But for those who love the movies bye the game or rent it first. There are not many fighters to choose from and my favorite one reptile you have to enter a code to get. I think you should get the game is you have played it and like it. The graphics are not as good as nintendos. but the color is a good thing!

Mortal Kombat 4 is the first 3D game of the series. Despite that, the Game Boy version is still 2D.
The graphics are good. The characters are digitized, like how they were in the previous games. The gameplay, however, can be a bit unresponsive. Like all other Game Boy Mortal Kombats, this game would be short. You only get to fight 9 characters in Master mode, 7 in Warrior, and 5 in Novice. The best attack to use is just kicking. That's kinda sad. Usually, the uppercut would be the best standard attack to use, but no. Instead, it's KICKING. The enemy AI is way too easy to beat. I got through Master mode without any trouble. Granted, they can attack almost decently, but just throw 5 kicks and then it's possible he/she'd die. It can be glitchy when it comes to fighting Scorpion and Shinnok. You can still attack them even while they use their "Get over here" attacks on you. It doesn't look like you are, but then you see the enemy's HP draining. If you attack them by just mashing A repeatedly, and kill them, you somehow use your fatality. For some reason, I just manage to get addicted to this game. I don't know how, but I just ended up like that. There are a couple special stuff in the game when played on the Super Game Boy: -Special and cool-looking 16-Bit border -Colors change every screen to appropriate colors When played on the Game Boy Color, the colors make very detailed backgrounds. Overall, it's alright, but if you want a great Mortal Kombat game for the Game Boy, buy MK2 instead.

I'm gonna start out with this, "so much violence on GBC its absolutly crazy!" I mean that with every fiber of my being. Whats that? you don't understand? let me explain...
GRAPHICS- Strange as it is, the graphics aren't up to par with its more than successful big brother, MK3. The violence I mentioned earlier comes from the full motion video fatalities that MK4 has to offer. The videos are about 4 seconds long, and return to humble beginings with black and white picture. SOUND- Same old same old, bones cracking, people screaming, the usual. The game does have some pretty nifty voice acting on the part of the announcer. GAMEPLAY- Limited movement, and a rather quick frame rate, wierd blend, but it works. Fatalities are easy to pull off so don't let me hear "I never could pull that one off." In conclusion, its a great addition to anyone's GBC library, and if you don't have it, GET IT!!!!!

I ordered this game with high anticipation, and I was greatly let down. The graphics on this game was awful. Yes it was in color but you could barely see anything clearly.

This game is beyond bull number 2 it stinks. What have me really mad is that on the cover they are saying how the fatalites are awesome which is a big fat LIE. all you see is your player's shadow destroying your opponent's shadow. and it is 2d since is a game boy color and the graphics Stinks like sour milk with flies in it. do not buy this for game boy color go rent mortal kombat anhilliation the movie instead.
