5.0 out of 5 stars A new and better kind of Mortal Kombat
After being a major fan of the Mortal Kombat series for years, I didn't think that Mortal Kombat could get any better, but I was wrong and this game proved it! You have 15 characters to choose from, most of them new. 3.0 out of 5 stars Return of fighters and rip offs of old ones, 3D excellence
The very first 3D Mortal Kombat offers great graphics, new 3D worlds, the return of several fighters, tournaments, 2 on 2 kombat and much more. Scorpion, Goro, Reptile and others return to the game with a few new fighters, however the bad part is that all of the new characters have similar powers as the old characters that were not in the game. Another bad part is that...

After being a major fan of the Mortal Kombat series for years, I didn't think that Mortal Kombat could get any better, but I was wrong and this game proved it! You have 15 characters to choose from, most of them new. A lot of the most popular characters such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sonya, and Rayden are back in this sequel along with many new faces such as Quan Chi, Reiko, Tanya, Kai, and many others.

Mortal Kombat 4 definitely has the best graphics of any of the Mortal Kombat games ever made. If you've played the arcade version before, then you'll notice that the Nintendo 64 version is almost identical to it. The controls are perfect, the sounds are just as clear and mystical as the arcade version, and it's a lot of fun. What really makes Mortal Kombat 4 the best Mortal Kombat game so far is that there are new and better ways of fighting. There are boulders you can pick up and throw at your opponent, every character has a secret weapon that they can draw out such as swords and spiked balls, and finally, there are some different and more exciting kinds of moves such as neck breakers, leg breakers, etc. In this sequel, Goro returns as the villain you'll have to face before getting to the main boss, Shannok. When you finally beat the game, each character has an ending that plays just like a miniature movie. Mortal Kombat 4 also has some awesome fatalities, even better than the fatalities that made the other Mortal Kombat games famous.

There are also many modes of play, you can play 1 or 2 player, there's a Mortal Kombat Tournament mode, and many other modes of play. Not to mention that there are secret codes that will enable you to see each character's ending, to get Goro as a fighter, etc.

If you're a Mortal Kombat fan, I definitely recommend getting Mortal Kombat 4 and experience a new and better kind of Mortal Kombat.

This game is great! It is one of the best fighting games I've ever played; on N64 or in the arcades. The play control is good, the fighters move quickly and smoothly, and there is no slow down! This game is also really fun. Most of the characters are from the first three Mortal Kombats, like Scorpion and Sub-Zero, along with new characters like Shinok and Quan-Chi. I recommend this game for any fan of fighting games.

Super Smash Bros. was awesome. War Gods was too. But this game is better than both combined. Everything is awesome. I don't know about you, but I think the blood is cool and makes it look much more realistic. And you can turn the blood off. The classics are returning, like Scorpion(My personal favorite),Johnny Cage(unfortunately) and as always, Liu Kang. The graphics are awesome and experience very little slowdown. The music is cool and It has a practice mode for beginners. (Not that I need it)If you feel it is too easy you can always make it harder or do endurance mode. Buy it and Sell anything else!

Super fast and full of surprises, the Mortal Kombat series leaps to 3D and loses nothing. This game is the best of the series. A must have for any fighting enthusiast. But children beware, copious amounts of blood.

Another bad part is that unlike the past few Mortal Kombat games is that this game is very quick to beat and it lacks challenge. To make up for it though, there are the most awesome fatalities of any game, such as Scorpion's very realistic fire, the spinal removal from Sub Zero with a total 3D effect and Liu Kang's throwing his opponent straight toward the camera. Each fighter now has weapons as well to add flavor to the fight.

5.0 out of 5 stars greatest game of the year!!!, June 18, 2001

Killer game man!!!!! I rented this at first and couldn't stop playing it.(eventually bought a week later) I wasn't quite sure about this one though. I mean all the other MK's were on SNES and this was one of the first Mortal Kombat's out on 64 besides Mortal Kombat Trilogy. I thought they'd mess up the whole series by making it with better graphics and get rid of some of my favorite fighters and replace them with some freaking queer crack monkeys. But turns out there are new characters but they still have the ones that made the game famous and better features like, 2 on 2 battle and new characters never seen on any gaming system like Tanya and Fujin. And of course, everybodys favorite...FATALLITIES!!!!! Some new, some improved. I'd reccomend this to anyone who's played the originals or someone that's likes fighting games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings, July 15, 2000

I have mixed feelings of this game. I agree with my parents about the blood, violence, and all of that stuff they usually say to keep me from feeling good about having fun, but I enjoyed playing it. It has hardly any slowdown, exellent graphics, and a nice little practice mode for hours of endless carnage. It may take a while to master, but its a blast.

I love MK games but this one really made me mad. It was way to bloody! Some Fatalities might offened some people because one of them shows the devil turning a guy into a walking dead maniac! Plus I have betten it but it was way to easy! NO FUN AT ALL!

This game is a few years old, of course, but I was so pleased with it that I played it all last night after it was shipped to me. Definitely the best fighting game for the fading N64 platform. It is somewhat easy on the easy settings (almost too easy mind you), and as you increase the challenge level, the computer opponents increase in ability almost 10 fold.

The only gripe that I have is that some moves are just not condusive to being made on the N64 controller. My hands also wanted to keep sliding over into the traditional n64 grip on the controller (with the stick and not the pad), but this game does not play well with the stick and thus you have to use the pad. That will feel weird at first. You can re-map the buttons to better suite your needs, but if you do, other moves will be more difficult to pull off as well. For instance, Sub-Zero's famous slide is almost impossible to do without taking your right hand off the controller and repositioning it on the correct buttons to make him do his slide. While you're doing this, you're getting your butt kicked because how are you going to concentrate on where the buttons are during the fight?

I still give it 5 stars because those problems are not really that significant in the long run. The combo system is wonderful, and anyone who is looking for a good fighting game on the N64 console should pick this one up. With the price that it is at now, it is very affordable too. I highly recommend it.
