Sure, these old Mortal Kombat games have aged, but that's not the main reason to stay away from this "Kollection". It's simply a poor port that doesn't play well on the PC. There are several control issues, some sound glitches, and it just doesn't feel like much effort went into the final product. That's a shame, because in their day, these games were bloody good fun.

This game works great, I have had 0 issues playing it offline and online. (Windows 7-x64) It intalls through steam so it's easily setup for you and has the steam MK community too. A note about controllers, you do need an xbox360 or similar x-input type controller (unless you use xpadder or whatever). If you got some old direct input controller, it won't work without something like xpadder.

Just want to add one note: Nearly all the reviewers who 1 star'ed this appear to have the main issue of "just not knowing how to use a computer".
The game itself is fine.

Every since Mortal Kombat came out, it was a delight to see a game with blood, violence, but best of all, FATALITIES. As the series got more popular, more and more characters got added to the list with more and more secrets to learn and find. Now, in todays age, you can get the complete set of the first 3 games as a packaged deal for a very low price. The only version that they still need to update or fix is Mortal Kombat Trilogy, but that's another story.

The game series itself is very well setup. You can choose which game you can play and then from there choose your character and see how much you know from your experience. The games play is not bad and sound could use a little more work. For $10 for all 3 games, you can't go completely wrong. My major issue is the following...

You do have to have a STEAM account, as well as a "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE" account. The reason for the "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE" account is so you can input the serial that STEAM will provide you with once the game activated on STEAM first. (Hope you followed that closely, but wait, it gets worse) Now, with that said, I should also warn you, there are issues with this game because of the 2 accounts you have to have. If you install the game and you can't get past the "PRESS ENTER" intro screen, you are in for some frustration. Here is how you will have to handle this issue from what I have read from some forums on steam and other gaming sites...

1.) Activate game on the STEAM account
2.) Install the game on your PC
3.) If you run the game and can't get past the "PRESS ENTER", do the following
4.) Uninstall any/all "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE" applications on your PC (Including the extra Apps)
5.) Reinstall "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE"
6.) If during the install, it shows you had something else already still installed, you have to uninstall that to and start over
7.) If you did a complete FRESH install of "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE" This should fix the problem
8.) Now, run the game and it should NOW ask you for the serial that STEAM will provide you with

Now, if this does not clear up the problem, I don't know what to tell you. This is how I was able to get this to work for me for I had the same "PRESS ENTER" issue like a lot of people have had. Basically, it requires you to have all your original "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE" programs installed as well as used for your copy of Windows on your PC.

Overall, the game works great. My only other issue is the Online play (If you can call it that) is not as effective as you might think. Lag issues, slowdown, sometimes even interrupted for whatever reason it will be. Personally, I just have this game for the game itself, not for the online play. So, if you get this game, please make sure you have a "FRESH" copy of "Games For Windows/Windows LIVE" installed. I have heard that getting the "Retail" version is much easier than getting the downloaded copy. Since I didn't get the retail version, I can't say if that is true. Just be ready for a headache when you do purchase the "Download" version of this game. Good luck getting this game to work.

I recommend that you should buy it if you know Mortal Kombat combat game series. Also, it is worked on Steam Online Game Code. But, it is needed to register Windows Live Games account for playing. So that follow instructions on your own Steam Library as well as Steam Community.

Tried for days to get this game started on my Windows 8 laptop. Just can't get past the start screen and using the keyboard or controller won't work. Customer game support at Amazon was useless and couldn't get a refund. The only thing the female was concerned with is if the game activation code was used.

If you played the original games in the arcade, this plays exactly like what you would expect.

If you are getting this to play online, you will be disappointed. Every time I have checked, there has not been a single public match hosted.

You get exactly what you pay for - the first three Mortal Kombat games . The data won't bog down your ram, because it's a relatively simple set up, so it runs nice and smooth. Now if they would only come out with a download for Mortal Kombat 4, and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, I would be happy to be entombed with my laptop like an ancient pharaoh . I know a lot of mall girls out there prefer Tekken, but that is because you are squeaky little mall girls ! If you are spoiled rotten on the newer Mortal Kombat games, you may not like it at first, but keep a stiff upper lip, have a sense of humor, and learn the combos, and special attacks, and you shall become a new champion of Earthrealm !!!

Let me be perfectly clear. I don't understand why I got this: I wasn't really into Mortal Kombat when I was smaller, and... it turns out I'm still not. It runs just fine on my computer. Despite what it says about requiring Steam for DRM, it ran just fine when the Steam client wasn't running. You do still need steam to download the game files and unlock them the first time.

It runs perfectly and supports my 360 controller. The games in the "Kollection" are exactly as you remember them, I found no significant problems with emulation or porting or whatnot. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it turns out I don't really like the games themselves.

If I really had to make any recommendations, I'd suggest getting an Xbox 360 Fight/Arcade stick for a more authentic control experience. (I recommend an Xbox 360 fight stick specifically because I know the game supports Xbox 360 controllers. You may have luck with other controllers).

I did not like this port of these 3 classic arcade games. My first reason is that it uses GamesForWindowsLIVE! GFWL is not only some of the worst game DRM ever invented but it is also being shut down in 2014. So as of 2014 you will not be able to play this online. My seccond reason is that you can not change the resolution. It has no widescreen support and you can not stretch the game to fit your monitor. Third is the high system reqirements. My higher end pc can run this but if you plan on running this on a netbook or something it will not run at all. Other than that it supports 360 controllers and the gameplay is nice.
