Having been a MK fan since the first one I was anxious to see where Midway would take the franchise after the frenetic MK II.
The good?
The run button and the accompanying growling noise from the running character is highly amusing.
Great graphics, slightly less frantic gameplay than MK II.
More emphasis was placed on "dial a combos" instead of the juggling in MK II.
It was cool to watch someone pull off a huge combo string but it made MK a little less skill based than MK II.
The fatalities are back as well as the animalities.
More characters, Sub Zero unmasked.
Loved the new comers, Kabal, Cyrax, and even the ultra cheap Stryker.
All in all a great follow up to MK II and it took the franchise in some interesting new places.
Recommended.

This game is the funnest game in the world. I love every part of the game from the hidden fighter to the fatalitys,animalities, and babalities. The new fighters mixed in with the older fighters makes it the most fun you could have with a game. It's not one of those games that you can beat easly you have to know alot of moves the fighters have. this game is hard but fun at the same time. I think you will love this game. I know I do.

In my book the Sega Genesis is still a top notch game system and this game is one of the reasons why. Mortal Kombat is BACK, kicking outworld butt. When Shao Kahn resurects his previously dead queen in order to cross over into earth relm without winning Mortal Kombat. His actions leave earth realm drained of all life accept the lives of a handfull of Kombatants. The edition of a few new characters as well as a great storyline, even better moves combine to make this game a total hit. The graphics and sounds have gotten a big boost up too from the old Mortal Kombat game. Buy this game if you still have your genesis. It's a must for all video game fighters everywhere !

The main things to remember about Mortal Kombat III for Genesis are that:
1) It's on Genesis and not SNES, so the controls are terrible. You will have to mash multiple buttons together to get one response, etc. I don't know if a snazzy 6-button controller fixes this issue, but I don't have one of those.
2) This is not Ultimate Mortal Kombat III, which is waaayyyy better. You will find yourself wishing that it was mainly because of the much larger character roster.

Other than that, it's a pretty decent game that can offer a few minutes of fun here and there, maybe more if you are with friends, but I found that most of my friends can only get down on a game like this for a few minutes because the controls are so horrid.

I'm gonna make this review short and simply say check out UMK3, its really like an improved version of this game.

This game has good graphics, good music, and decent character selection. You can play as the 2 boss characters with some kinda cheat during the options menu, that's a plus. But the game is just to weak by comparison. It lacks a lot of little things Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 has to offer. The gameplay isn't bad but with some better control options that could have really been improved.

Its not a horrible game, but there are better ones like UMK3 and also other games out there that would make more sense of your time!

the computer is CHEAP AS IT GETS... but MK is still a classic...

MK 3 is one of the funniest and most exciting games I'd ever played. I Already had beaten it a few times.

THIS IS THE VERSION OF MORTAL KOMBAT 3 THAT YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY AVOID. THIS GAME WAS HORRIBLE AND IT MAKES THE SUPER NINTENDO VERSION LOOK LIKE A GOOD GAME IN COMPARISON. THE GRAPHICS ARE AWFUL, THE MUSIC IS ANNOYING HERE, THE CONTROLS ARE BAD, AND UNLESS YOU HAVE A 6 BUTTON CONTROLLER FOR THE SEGA GENESIS, YOU CAN'T DO MUCH OF ANYTHING!!! THIS IS A MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT TO THOSE THAT HAVE THIS GAME ON GENESIS. AVOID THIS VERSION AT ALL COSTS. THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. THIS VERSION JUST RUINS THIS SOMEWHAT DECENT SEQUEL.
