Well, what can I say? Obviously whoever is reading this must be somewhat Interested in the CD. I saw MK on TV one time, I loved it, and I watched it lots of time. 3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Soundtrack
This soundtrack fits the movies atmosphere except someof the tracks suck. The best tracks are Goodbye (Gravity Kills), Juke Joint Jezebel (KMFDM, best track!), Sister Machine Gun (Burn) and Bile (Reject). Than some tracks stink ie: What U See (Mutha's Day Out), Twist the Knife (Napalm Death), and the theme from Mortal Kombat (both the Immortals and Utah Saints). Get it...

This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Well, what can I say? Obviously whoever is reading this must be somewhat Interested in the CD. I saw MK on TV one time, I loved it, and I watched it lots of time. I was younger then, and the music wasn't something to me. But then one day, (about a year ago) I was going through my Videos. And found Mortal Kombat. So I watched a bit of it. And I became yet again Obsessed. The music was now very thrilling to me. And I went out and bought the soundtrack, I actually bought mine from Borders in Australia, it was ordered from the US and took 14 weeks!

Anyway, you wanna know about this soundtrack? I'll tell you about it. I love it, not all tracks are perfect, but different people like different music. They are all satisfactory.

Here's some Info on the CD:

Track one:
Name: A taste of things to come
Band: (Composer) Geaorge.S.Clinton
Time: 0:48
Scene from Film: When Shang Tsung says, "And now for a taste of things to come", and all those red masked men chuck the banquet tables around and then out comes Sub Zero to freeze another guy.
My View: I really like this track, It's very short, 0:48 seconds, but It still is great. It is a fast drumming exercise that really catches you as It builds and the gong bangs at the end. It's cut short a bit, as it goes for longer in the film, but It cuts at an appropriate point.

My rating: 10/10

Track two:
Name: Goodbye (Demo)
Band: Gravity Kills
Time: 3:10
Scene from film: End Credits
My view: It's a good song, that goes along slowly and keeps you interested. It cuts off at a highly inapproprite time at the end. I didn't expect it to, but it just cuts off!

My rating: 6/10

Track three:

Name: Juke Joint Jezebel (Metrpolis Mix)
Band: KMFDM
Time: 5:17
Scene from film: Kano VS Sonya Blade
My View: This is one awesome track. The action starts here. It is catchy in everyway. It has an awesome musical Intro, first it hits you with the Guitars, then the Synth, then the Vocals. The Vocals are mixed. It's so coool! It sound dark and evil at first (by the way the singers sing it) but then you start to realize by the chorus, if they wanted it to be that way, they wouldn't have Included the awesome female vocals. I became obsessed with this song. I got this CD, in feb, and I still listen to this track once a day. It rocks. Listen to the sample above. This track Alone is worth buying the CD.

My rating: 10/10

Track four:
(It is written everywhere even on the CD thatthis is PsykoSonik, It's not, It's the traci Lords (Juno Reacor) there was a mistake - track 5 and 4 should round the other way).

Name: Control
Band: Traci Lords (Juno Reactor)
Time: 6:28 (according to the CD brochure, but strangely it doesn't go for more than five mins)
Scene from film: IT WASN'T IN THE FILM!
My View: Well, If you've heard of Juno Reactor, I need to say nothing, but this track, for those who don't know, is Instrumental, and is very "Disco - Like".

My rating: 7/10

Track five:

Name: Unlearn
Band: PsykoSonik
Time: 7:29
Scene from film: Reptile VS Liu Kang
My view: This is very techno. It pumps it hard and fast. It is very exciting and non stop action music.

My rating: 9/10

Track six:

Name: Halcyon + on + on
Band: Orbital
Time: 9:28
Scene from film: End, straight after Liu kills Shang Tsung and all his souls burst out, It flows until Shao Kahn pops out of that temple.
My view: A good, classic Electronica track. It is quiet and ambient and displays female vocals but no lyrics. Just humming and melodies. It's a very good track.

My rating: 10/10

Track seven:

Name: Take on the theme from Mk
Band: Utah Saints
Time: 3:00
Scene from Film: End Credits
My View: This was written for the film, and is a mix of Techno Syndrome, it is the MK tune, but just mixed differently. It's very enjoyable.

My rating: 6/10

Track Eight:

Name: The Invisible
Band: G//Z/R
Time: 4:30
Scene from Film: WASN'T IN FILM!
My View: I hardly listen to this one. It is good, but dark. The lyrics don't turn me on. It's a catchy song, with style, but It has no relation to the film at all.

My rating: 5/10

Track Nine:

Name: Zero Signal
Band: Fear Factory
Time: 5:58
Scene from Film: Johnny Cage VS Scorpion
My View: You like your screaming / metal music? You got it here. This song is great. It rocks fast, and has roaring lyrics that shout and scream. It's a good one. Very beaty, rough and loud.

My rating: 10/10

Track ten:

Name: Burn
Band: Sister Machine Gun
Time: 4:40
Scene from Film: WASN'T IN FILM!
My View: Very Homie style. Beaty, slow paced. A song you can relax to while still getting your beat addiction satisfied! Very good song. It's groovy man.

My rating: 10/10

Track eleven:

Name: Blood and Fire (Out of the ashes mix)
Band: Type 0 Negative
Time: 4:35
Scene from film: ANOTHER ONE THAT WASN'T IN THE FILM!
my view: Elvis Presley vocals! Guitars are cool. It's a very good song that offers almost an "eighties" feel to it. I love it.

My rating: 10/10

Track twelve:

Name: I reject
Band: Bile
Time: 2:57
Scene from film: WASN'T IN FILM!
My view: This song is very slow paced, but almost metal. It has croak - like vocals. Very wierd. Especially the toilet flush at the end.

My rating: 4/10

Track thirteen:

Name: Twist the Knife (slowly)
Band: Napalm death
Time: 2:53
Scene from Film; Where Goro beats Human after Human after HUman.
My view: You like roaring? Lyrics you can't hear or understand? Well here you go. A short, furious song. Very catchy but not the type of song you'd listen to over and over.

My rating: 5/10

Track fourteen:

Name: What U see/We all bleed red
Band: Mutha's day out
Time: 4:09
Scene from Film: The techno club at the start of film, where sonya and Jax are searchin for Kano.
My View: Awesome. Metal. too good. too fast. a bit of screaming. Fast lyrics. Amazing song, too good!

My rating: 10/10

Track fifteen:

Name: Techno Syndrome
Band: The Immortals
Time: 3:22
Scene from film: Shang VS Liu and End credits
my view: The MK themesong. Very techno. vERY BEATY, EXCELLENT TUNE. i like! You like too.

My rating: 10/10

Track sixteen:

Name: Goro VS Art
Band: (Composer) George.S.Clinton
Time: 3:00
Scene from film: GORO VS ART
my view: a very excelent guitar job. speedy, fast, techno/rock. It's good.

My rating: 8/10

Track seventeen:

Name: Demon Warriors/Final Kombat
Band: (Composer) George.S.Clinton
Time: 3 mins something.
Scene from Film: Starts when Liu takes on the demon warriors, then Shang Tsung.
My view: fast paced. Very good. Classic build up sequence. I think It's good for an occasional listen.

My rating: 6/10

That's my review of the MK soundtrack. In total of all I've done, I'd give it: 136/170

It's a great soundtrack. Just get out there and buy it. I'm listening to it right now!

5.0 out of 5 stars I dug this out after many years only because.., May 11, 2004
This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I just recently saw the movie "Mean Girls" in theaters, and there is a song at the end of the movie that I remembered was on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. So I went into my collection and dug out this CD to find the song. It was a song by Orbital called "Halcyon On+On+On", if you have not heard this song, once you hear it you will be in tears, it is such a beautiful song. The rest of the CD is really good, but that Orbital song is the best part, it is like a slowing point in the CD. Very nice song, I highly recommend you listen to it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Headbangers And Aerobics Instructors Unite!, December 17, 2004
This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The perfect blend of techno, nu metal, hard rock, and dance music, "Mortal Kombat" is a soundtrack that covers many bases. First of all, we are given some nice techno/workout music from groups like Gravity Kills, KMFDM and the Utah Saints. The best songs of the first part of this album are "Goodbye" and "Jukeboint Jezebel." The second half of this album gives us a dose of Type O Negative's "Blood & Fire" and Sister Machine Gun's "Burn." Then, everything is wrapped up nicely with some George S. Clinton and the sounds of the Immortals.

There isn't much to say about this album other than the fact that there are some really good songs to do aerobics to and then, once you've warmed up a bit, you can headbang on through the night.

If you're into techno music or enjoyed the music of recent soundtracks such as any of the "Blade" flicks or "Resident Evil," you're sure to like this collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Fantastically Eclectic Soundtrack, July 24, 2003
By

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The soundtrack to the motion picture 'Mortal Kombat' contains a brilliant mix of techno, industrial, goth, and grindcore (???) tracks. Granted, some are better than others, so to be fair, here is a track-by-track breakdown of this album.

1. George Clinton "A Taste Of Things To Come" 3/5

A decent intro to the album and to the movie, nothing truly special though.

2. Gravity Kills "Goodbye (Demo)" 1/5

Gravity Kills' "Goodbye" is one of my favorite songs, but this demo of it completely butchers the song, musically inferier and vocally dreadful.

3. KMFDM "Juke Joint Jezebel (Metrpolis Mix)" 5/5

Though not as good as the original KMFDM track, the remix captures the more techno feel of the song.

4. Psykosonik "Unlearn" 2/5

Pretty much your average bass beat techno song. Nothing new or interesting.

5. Traci Lords feat. Juno Reactor "Control (Insturmental Mix)" 4/5
A d amn fine techno track with some excellent beats and synth. Much better than the original track.

6. Orbital "Halcyon + on + on" 5/5

Orbital takes a shot at a more ambient direction, and are definitely successful. A lot like early Cocteau Twins, brilliantly dark and melodic.

7. Utah Saints "Theme From Mortal Kombat (Utah Saints Version)" 3/5
Nothing really special about it. It doesn't really live up to the original, or stands out in any way.

8. Geezer "The Invisible" 3/5

Was never really a G/Z/R fan, a mundane metalic rock track, catchy, but nothing too impressive.

9. Fear Factory "Zero Signal" 5/5

One of the last great Fear Factory songs, when they still had some death metal in them. The etherial sounding keyboards really take the song to a new level.

10. Sister Machine Gun "Burn" 4.5/5

I have always liked Sister Machine Gun's blend of gothic and industrial music, and "Burn" is another solid track.

11. Type O Negative "Blood and Fire (Out of the Ashes Mix) 4/5

Same with Sister Machine Gun, except with a more goth rock edge to it. One of the finer remixes on the album.

12. Bile "I Reject" 5/5

Bile is one of the best industrial metal band since Ministry. Very dark techno with a mix of guitars and incredible vocals.

13. Napalm Death "Twist the Knife (Slowly)" 5/5

Though originally on "Fear. Emptiness. Despair, iy is the best song on the album and the second best song that Napalm Death has done. A devastatingly heavy grindcore song that will have you banging your ...ing head!

14. Mutha's Day Out "What U See/We All Bleed Red" 1/5

Idiotic rap insipired hardcore nu-metal. The are trying way to hard to sound like Biohazard, and fail so miserably.

15. The Immortals "Techno Syndrome (7" Mix)" 5/5

One of the best techno songs of all time. Not your everyday time type techno, but a collection of riviting beats and synths. Amazing.

16. George Clinton feat. Buckethead "Goro Vs. Art" 4.5/5

Buckethead, best known for playing with Axel Rose in the new Guns N' Roses, aids George Clinton to create this great piece of music.

17. George Clinton "Demon Warriors/Final Kombat" 3.5/5

A solid, but not excelllent track, but is strangely the perfect way to end both the film and the soundtrack.

To sum it up, with the exception of tracks by Gravity Kills, Mutha's Day Out, and Psykolink, this soundtrack is great. 'Mortal Kombat' is an album that all fans of industrial, goth, and techno should have in their collection.

If you liked the movie, you'll love the CD. A good mix of hard rock (Fear Factory) and techno (KMFDM). If you are home by yourself and need something to rock out to, buy this CD and pop it in. Only problem was trying to find it because most stores don't order the CD anymore.

4.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUNDTRACKS I'VE EVER BOUGHT, January 13, 2004
This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
THIS SOUNDTRACK TO THE 1995 FILM IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN THE MOVIE ITSELF! THIS CD HAS METAL, INDUSTRIAL, AS WELL AS SOME TECHNO MUSIC. THE BEST SONGS ON THIS CD ARE FEAR FACTORY'S ''ZERO SIGNAL'', G//Z/R'S ''THE INVISIBLE'', THE REMIX TO KMFDM'S ''JUKE JOINT JEZEBEL'', AND GRAVITY KILLS' ''SAY GOODBYE''. I'M A BIG FAN OF ALL THE BANDS THAT'RE ON THIS CD. IT'S A SHAME THAT ALL OF THESE BANDS ARE STILL ON THE UNDERGROUND CIRCUIT TODAY. THIS SOUNDTRACK WILL DEFINITELY SATISFY METAL, TECHNO, AND INDUSTRIAL FANS. THE SOUNDTRACK'S SO GOOD, IT'LL SOMETIMES MAKE YOU FORGET ALL ABOUT THE MOVIE.

This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
As pieces of cinema, "Mortal Kombat" and its sequel "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" take everything from the video game series (except for the blood, gore, and guts) and turn them into two action-packed movies that people might still enjoy even if they don't enjoy the games.

As visually spectacular as the fight scenes are, so too is some of the music that accompanies them: such items as "Control" by Traci Lords, heard during Liu Kang's battle with Reptile. There's also "Halycon + On + On + On" by Orbital, a rather long track but still very pretty to listen to. (I'm not sure, but I think it's heard when the Earth is restored to its natural state).

My recommendation is four stars because the "MK" soundtrack can be a little difficult to get into, especially if you like techno but not metal. If you buy the tape, as I did, the tracks will appear to be split 50/50 between techno and metal, like an actual musical fight.

Also included are three tracks from the score, the entirety of which can be found on the "Mortal Kombat" Original Motion Picture Score album by George S. Clinton. But go ahead and give this one a spin or a playback if you love the movie just as much or you're just in the mood to hear something different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have party CD; a terrific techno/industrial sampler, May 31, 2000
By
This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Well, this one hasn't gotten old yet. The (original) Mortal Kombat soundtrack CD gives you as good a slice of mainstream 1995 techno and industrial as you could ask for.

I favor the techno to the industrial, but that's just me. The Traci Lords / Juno Reactor instrumental Control, constructed from layers of samples and analog synth cliches that are as infectious as the Asian flu, is probably the most memorable in the context of the movie. The Goro Vs. Art title was a spine-tingler in the theater (hope you caught it) and it sounds pretty good at home given an appropriate volume level (i.e., loud). The inclusion of Orbital's Halcyon+On+On was interesting but I'm not sure it fits. This from a big Orbital fan.

I could go on, but when you get down to it, pretty much every tune on this album is a standout. Gotta have it for your next party.

5.0 out of 5 stars techno attitude and death metal rolled into one, July 26, 2010
By
This review is from: Mortal Kombat: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The 1995 Mortal Kombat Soundtrack is my favorite soundtrack of all time. Why? Never before have I experienced such an assortment of extremely talented musicians collaborating to form an album that's full of energy, attitude, melody, and complexity. All 17 tracks are stellar, and range from melodic techno songs to in- your- face thrash/death metal that feeds on every man's bad day. Prior to this album, I wasn't a fan of techno music, or even death metal, for that matter. However, the songs have a way of grabbing the listener, and trigger the imagination--not necessarily from the movie, but everyday imagination. I absolutely love track #9 (Zero Signal), as it's powerful, angry, but has depth to it. As for the techno songs, I like track #6 (Halcyon and On and On). It's over 9 minutes, but doesn't get boring. It starts slow, builds energy, then slows down again. Track #4 (Unlearn) is another techno standout with a good beat and movement. I particularly like the bass drumming on this one. Other standouts include track # 11 (Blood and Fire, track #13 (Twist the Knife (Slowly)), and track #14 (What U See). Of course, the icing on the cake is the theme song, Techno Syndrome, or the version from the Utah Saints. Buy this CD, and you won't be disappointed--I promise!!! 10/10
