MORTAL KOMBAT for the SEGA was much better than the SNES version for a very simple but almost CRUCIAL part of the game, the blood could be unlocked. The game came in the censored version but if you knew the code, you could get the real thing and that's why MK on SEGA was just better. The graphics weren't as smooth as SNES but that could easily be overlooked because of the blood code and being able to get the real deal. And of course how do you go wrong with the original characters? Cage, Kano, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Sonya plus the sorceror Shang Tsung and the mighty 4 armed Goro. Along with Test Your Might challenges, the Mirror Match (where you fight yourself) and two 2-on-1 matches, the original MK tested your ability for what it was. If you owned the SEGA, you needed MORTAL KOMBAT, there's really no excuse for you to not have this game. So really, pick up MK and also check out SUPER STREET FIGHTER II, the New Challengers, STREETS OF RAGE and even BALLZ. Just whatever you do, skip ETERNAL CHAMPIONS.

If you are looking for a good, hardcore oldie this is it. It is a tournament style fighting game. There arent as many characters as the new titles but who cares. The playable characters are Lu Kang, Sonya, Raden, Scorpion, Subzero and Kano. The bosses are Shang Tusng and Goro. After you beat all the characters you fight a mirror image of yourself. Then you fight Shang Tusng and if he is losing he might turn into Goro. All in all this game is probably one of the best games there is.

This is probably the most popular game today! Despite the lack of characters, this game has tons of devastating fatalities. It also includes the pit!

So many years later and many incarnations later how does the original Mortal Kombat stand up?Well............it's still fun. The graphics for its time were excellent. The game play was fast and frenetic. The over the top gore was simply jaw dropping...and really...that is probably the single most important thing Mortal Kombat has given us. Controversy. Protests. Parents screaming about how their younglings were being corrupted. You have to appreciate how MK was simply in the right place at the right time. The game that helped revolutionize the home consol market. MK has gone from simple 2d game play to z axis 3d and now with the rebirth of MK due in 2011 it appears MK kreators are taking the game back to its frantic 2d roots. It should be interesting. Why not, it's been a heck of a ride so far. Mortal Kombat 1. Innovative. Ground breaking. A must play even if it's just to see where it all began. Highly recommended.

This game was really good. Use to play this game alot in the early 90's. This is where mortol kombat began. I remember liking the finshing moves. Still remember back back A being scropion moved for that rope. Finshing moves where good. Sure the mortol kombat finshing moves now look way better but you got to think this game was made in the early 90's. During this time the graphic were not really too bad. IF you want to see home it all began then I suggest playing mortol kombat.

I still own this classic fighting relic, and it will always hold a place in my gaming heart. I was blown away the first time i played this in a local arcade as a young fellow, and have followed the series ever since, even up to the new xbox 360 version which is awesome as well. Genesis version was definatly the version to get unless you had a sega cd system, i found the cd version an almost arcade perfect port, but those arent as common to come by anymore, and honestly the genesis version is almost arcade perfect itself! the blood was available in this version unlike snes (what was nintendo thinkin? lol the gore made this game!) with a simple abacabb code. I still love pulling out my genesis collection every now and then and stompin down on this classic and taking on some friends who had forgotten these games still existed! Hours of fun and 100% replayability, strongly reccomend this and all the other great MK games, the 2nd was always my personal fave, but this one started it all, i will always be fond of this game! Just a year or so back i was working in mississippi and went into a laundry mat to do my wash and they had an original MK arcade machine in there, i whupped it good on maybe 2 bux worth of quarters and even had the owner out there watching before i finally beat it, i even tried to buy the machine off of him, but he wouldnt sell! wouldve loved to have that in my living room!!

The first Mortal Kombat game launched so much its hard to believe. You see all these games nowadays that have gore, you can thank Mortal Kombat for that one. This game was also really important because it found numerous ways to be different than other fighting games. Finishing moves and digitized graphics were miles ahead of its day. This is also the best version of Mortal Kombat 1 other than the arcade verzion not only because it has the tomato juice (you'll know what I mean when you uppercut your opponent) but also the game-play is second to none. The SNES lacked the finishing moves/fatalities also the blood and gore of the original version as well as the game-play was full of gliches, would freeze a lot, and so on. The Genesis didn't have the best sound or speech in the world but still it was a very good game for its day and will always be a classic!

Mortal Kombat good stuff the fighting engine wasn't the best but you could mix it up there's a lot people that think this was the best port I agree. This game was awesome in the arcades mainly because of blood and gore take it away MK is not MK. So nintendo as much as I liked Mario Zelda Contra among others the SNES version sucked grey sweat edited fatalities oh I love it when SNES fanboys bring color palett graphichs don't make the gameplay does. SNES gameplay you have to be cheap trip trip trip toss throw oh btw it's really buggy & glitchy so SNES version was crap. There was a Sega CD version that was definitely better than the Genesis version better music not that the Genesis version had bad music but Sega CD was a better version so if you have the Sega CD just get the CD version bur the GEN & CD version both play like the MK should.
