3.0 out of 5 stars Medicore game.
This game is just average. A very medicore effort. Im a Mortal Kombat fan but Im putting that aside for this review.

This game is similar to God of War, Devil May Cry, and Ninja Gaiden. The action is pretty good. However the graphic is very average. For a game with such simple graphic, its shocking that a 360 degrees adjustable camera don't exist. The sound...

This review is from: Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (Video Game)
I was 22 years old when I noticed a crowd gathered around a new game called Mortal Kombat, and by the time Mortal Kombat 2 was released, I was spending around 20 dollars a week on it. I have played every single MK game since (including Sub Zero Mythologies) and Shaolin Monks is a cool addition to the series overall. The graphics are nice (at times beautiful) and the gameplay is retro fighting (Double Dragon anyone?) brought onto a modern console. You have many classic moves available and some new ones as well. The opening animation is bar none the coolest and most brutal fight scene EVER in a video game! The 2 player co-op is fun as well as the Vs mode which gives you LARGE arenas to fight in. I am not a big fan of Deception or Deadly Alliance as they really are just button mashing games. You can memorize combos, or just hit random buttons and your chances of a victorious outcome are almost the same. MK 2 is by far the best designed Mortal Kombat game, but it's nice to see the franchise try new things. I like Shaolin Monks and hope to see some more MK adventure games soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sub-Zero Anthologies Atonement, October 8, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (Video Game)
I should start by saying I was a little hesitant going into this game because of other Midway attempts at Mortal Kombat adventure titles. However given the lack of co-op games my roommate and I bought the game and crossed our fingers. What we got was an over the top martial arts filled fun fest. The cut scenes play out like a B-rate martial arts movie (which is very entertaining), the graphics are good enough that I have no complaints, but the game truly shines in the game play. At the start of the game you will have two characters Kung Lao and Liu Kang both of whom have unique fighting styles and special moves as well as multiple fatalities. The puzzles in the games usually involve killing your foes in creative ways; this is almost always fun to do. Basically if you're a fan of Mortal Kombat or old fashioned co-op beat-em up games you should enjoy this game. I will say that if you expecting anything like traditional Mortal Kombat titles this is not it and if you are expecting tons of characters to play as then you will be disappointed. (but no one would be dumb enough to expect either of these and ridicule the game for it would they?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure Fun with Blood and Fighting, July 2, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (Video Game)
Mortal Kombat continues in its series of bloody death matches with Mortal Kombat - Shaolin Monks. However, this game is more adventure a la Gauntlet.

You get the signature blood - one character throws a spinning hat of doom at his enemies which literally chops their heads right off. Your enemies can hit each other by accident and get into a side war. You are jumping, comboing and special-moving your way to your goal.

There are multiple characters to use through the game, each with different abilities and attacks. There's also co-op if you want to play with a friend, and a head to head arena style combat area as well.

The environments are reasonable quality graphics - hanging vines, textured walls. It's a bit of a let-down from their stunning, long intro movie, though. That's got to be one of the better intro movies I've seen on the XBox!

The sound is OK - there's little background noise, and the monsters and characters grunt and groan while the metal sword CLANG sounds. You can always play your favorite iPod mix in the background on your stereo if you want something more interesting.

You even get a full copy of Mortal Kombat 2 in this game, if you want some old school fun!

If you are solely a person who loves the raw fighting of the regular Mortal Kombat series, then you might not like this one. There's walking and platforming involved in here. However, I really suggest you at least rent it and give it a try. It's a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the weapons, monsters, and moves.

3.0 out of 5 stars Medicore game., October 2, 2005

This game is just average. A very medicore effort. Im a Mortal Kombat fan but Im putting that aside for this review.

This game is similar to God of War, Devil May Cry, and Ninja Gaiden. The action is pretty good. However the graphic is very average. For a game with such simple graphic, its shocking that a 360 degrees adjustable camera don't exist. The sound effect is good but the music is crap or non-exist. The stages are generic and lack details. Some puzzles are very annoying. The cut-scene is lame and boring, the voice acting is horrible. There are only 2 playable characters and 2 more unlockable. SHOULD be at least 10 to 15 like the fighting game!

The good part about this game is the bloody violent animation. Cutting people in half, pieces of meat flying, decapitation, etc... all with blood are just some of many moves that can be executed. However the ten extra fatalities feature is disappointing. Newer fatalities are basically same as starter ones but more people get killed off. The fatality 'scene' is always the same one, same angle. It should be different 'scene' with different views related to the angle of approach.

Overall don't buy this game. Get X-men Legends II instead or wait for the new Castlevania.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Fun Game, November 4, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (Video Game)
A few things you should know first about Mortal Kombat : Shaolin Monks:

1.First and foremost, this IS NOT a fighting game. This is an action/adventure game.
2.If you are looking to buy this game for your kids, you may think twice. There is a lot of blood and gore with this game and it may not be for the squemish either. But thats Mortal Kombat for you :)

Let me say that I hate, hated , will always hate fighthing games. But there always has been one exception : MORTAL KOMBAT. The MK story, characters, secrets, and other things that set this series apart from the rest is what made me a big fan of the series.

So what Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (MKSM) does is take all those great MK characters from the fighting games and puts them into an action adventure game. And the game really is very fun to play.

The best thing is the non stop action. There is never a dull moment in this game. You're constantly on the move to try to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and accomplish missions. It takes an old school method, ko-op fighting and turns it into an awesome next-gen experience. You start off with Liu Kang or Kung Lao and pick up characters along your journey. The story is almost like Lord of the Rings in terms of being based on old world stories.

The graphics for the xbox version are beautiful. Sometimes you have to pause the screen just because you're in awe of the visuals. The characters look great, and the backgrounds, buildings, the whole game looks great. The sound is terffic too, but they MK has always had terrific sound.

The blood, gore, fatalies, hidden secrets, all of it is there. The game is a joy to play.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Game In The MK Franchise, February 27, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks (Video Game)
I have been a fan of Mortal Kombat since the first game was released and have bought ever game in the series ever since. After the weak action/adventure MK game about Jax, some of you probably didn't even know about it, fans worried if this game would live up to the MK name. Why not just make another fighting game? Well, all of those fears are unfounded and this game is excellent.

I'm really happy about it since we finally get to play my favorite character Liu Kang. The game is fun and challenging, the graphics are great and should please all fans of the series. Like I said, this game is challenging, this can be a good or bad thing. At one point of the game; you have to fight Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn in a row with the same health and really no chance to regain health. So this game ain't easy, but it is still fun. There are some continuity problems with the story, but only hardcore fans would notice.

One of the coolest parts of the game is just to see some of our favorite locations revisited. It adds a story to the fighting games, especially MK2 which is what this game really is. Overall fun for fans that should be enjoyed, because it rocks!

Being in my early 30's I remember Mortal Kombat at it roots, while for the times the graphics were great, the earlier versions have nothing on Shaolin Monks. All Mortal Kombat games should be made this way, and to go even further, most games today should follow this same formula. If you have played "GOD OF WAR" you'll know what I'm talking about. Great graphics, action, and a story you can't predict but simply enjoy.

This game makes an action/adventure twist to Mortal Kombat. You can go on an quest to kill Shang Tusng. Or you can play VS mode ane play with these characters (Youll have to unlock all of them except Kang and Lao) Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Cage, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, and Baraka. Also, you are able to unlock the original MORTAL KOMBAT II. So you should buy this game and prepare the next bloody fight of the Shaolin Monks Liu Kang & Kung Lao. Q-Ball OUT!

I have been playing mortal kombat since i was small and my mom bought me that first one i have been playing it ever since so i was a bit iffy just playing with only 2 people from mortal kombat when my husband bought it home for us to play together, we're just use to the straight up one on one fighting but i gotta admit playing it was great, fun and playing it with my husband made it even better...

I like the missions having to go through the protals to and from the other mortal kombat players you meet along the way it was a good game no complaints from me...

3.0 out of 5 stars fun but ultimately repetitive, October 28, 2008

this is a different spin on mortal kombat!instead of fighting[which you can still do] you get to go out adventuring as kung low and lou kang.i know i mispelled them but if you dont like it bite it!mortal kombat mispells every word with a c in it.anyhow, these 2 get xps made popular by d and d.if you are any kind of player you dont need this explained to you.but ill bet someones out there going "huh?" and scratching his or her head as the case may be.xps are points you get for defeating evil.these points may be spent on cooler and more complicated manuvers.this game is extremely fast paced!its really cool and quite chaotic at first.but once the chaos and balance harmonize it gets repetitive.like "look!i hit that evil wraith with a spine sucking bone marrow manifold uterus squeeze!" gets old the 23456789th time it happens.oh yeah!i forgot about the easy fatalities.you can just hit them any old time, instantly killing your opponent.another cool idea is the instant death environmental through.[i know scratch scratch].this means you can snatch a dude up and toss his a....... into a spiked wall or off a cliff or into acid or......well you get the idea!out of the 3 new mk games for the x-box this one takes the cake!so eat your cake.wash your hands so you dont grease up and or slime your controller and get them knuckles pumping, dude!
